"You musn't leave! I have no one but you, love." The sting of tears fought their way, and came quickly. Her heart began to ache and wrench as she imagined herself without him.
"But I must. Your father demands as many soldiers he can find. You know we cannot afford the Shambles to cross our territory borders. For they will destroy our hope as a true Kingdom, and all things we have worked for." She understood his duty. His role as a treasured soldier forced him to go to war. This was the one battle he couldn't miss. The conditions she foresaw he would face are trecherous. For it was the coldest of winters and an extreme incline hike to meet the Shambles for war. She was worried for his safe being.
"Oswyn, my love, if you must go, will you promise me you will wait?" Flora could hardly stand. He hadn't even left yet and she missed him. She didn't know how long he'd be gone, and that tore her apart. Tears streamed down her cheek, and she silently wept unable to resist.
"Darling, you need not to worry." Oswyn's throat started to close up. "I will be back soon, and we will start a family. I would wait forever and a year for you." He kissed Flora's temples, caressed her eyes and cheeks.
"I expect that you would do the same?" Oswyn asked. She but gave him her last hug, and he began to walk out the palace doors.
He struggled to take the first step. He wiped the tear from his cheek before Flora could see. Six long, pay full strides he took before approaching the door.
Before he could turn the knob, Flora spoke, "Oswyn," Her heart pounded through her ears. She hadn't expected to tell her husband for two more days; their anniversary. At such a urgent time like so, she had to tell him. At last, she had to speak. "I am already pregnant."
