I was standing against a tree in neutral territory, just outside of Red Moon ground. In the near distance, I saw a woman holding the hands of two little boys.
She was looking around cautiously, sensing someone near, though far enough to not know it was me. Her eyes met mine and she stopped abruptly, making the children stumble.
"Alpha." She bowed. She noticed the children hadn't seen me yet, and she thumped the back of their heads.
"Ow- what was that for!?" One got defensive while the other stared at me and bowed deeply. The woman turned the first one around so he faced me.
"Oh... You want me to bow? He's not an Alpha! Alpha George was! He had a Luna, the pack was complete! This guy doesn't know how to do anything!" My wolf wanted to rip the little kid into fourths.
The woman pulled him by the collar and scolded him harshly. She scurried off pulling him by the ear. The other followed reluctantly, looking at me over his shoulder. My hands reached up and massaged my temples. The little scoundrel was right. I didn't know what the hell I was doing.
"Alpha?" John and two other wolves bowed. I threw my hands up in the air and groaned.
"Stop doing that, it gets on my nerves!" I wasn't used to people looking up to me, bowing and calling me a name I wasn't deserving of.
"We apologize Alpha." One of the two men muttered. I sighed and shifted into my wolf, the heart-wrenching cracking sound filling the air. The usual pain that came with it was just a faint ache near my shoulders and legs. I grabbed my clothes in my mouth.
I heard the others shift behind me and we ran into the night.
We were running for quite a while, and I was planning to go a few more yards before turning back. I heard the leaves overhead rustle. I paused suddenly, the wolves behind me expertly halting before they crashed into my back. I sniffed the air and only the scent of four wolves, a possum, and a few birds lingered in the air. I quickly located each creature and none were in the trees overhead. Could this be..?
'Might be so.' John replied. I didn't even know I mind linked him.
Suddenly, the earth underneath us shook violently, throwing us on our sides. We hopped to our feet quickly and tried not to fall over again. A thick, green tentacle-like thing started growing out of the ground right in front of me. I bared my teeth and snapped at it.
A green stem started growing from the tentacle-like structure and sprouted a leaf. More and more stems and branches grew and produced a frond of leaves.
It was a tree.
The earth kept trembling, and another green tentacle sprouted up directly behind John, but he jumped out of the way before it grabbed a hold of him. All around us, trees rose out of the ground and enclosed us in a circle as the ground stopped trembling. They towered over us and I wouldn't doubt if they reached the heavens and disturbed sir J and G up there.
'What do I do?!' I sent to John, panicked. He must have experienced this with his previous alpha, right?!
'I... I don't know. This never happened before...' Aw well, we're fucked.
I shifted into human form and looked for my clothes, which were caught on some branch in a tree.
...Fine, I'll do it naked.
I wanted to face this monstrous creature who supposedly killed an omega, two betas, a Luna and an Alpha. The Luna and one of the Alphas being my parents.
It could kill me for all I care. I wanted to know who this tree-raising demon of hell was, and why it dared to kill the leaders of my pack.
I felt the other guys asking me what I was doing but I shut them out. Standing, I placed my palms on my head and my legs a foot apart. With my head down, I was in a surrendering position.
John did the same, not questioning my motives. The others were a bit hesitant but followed.
I heard a squeal from above.
"Holy shit! Hold that pose while I go get my camera!" A feminine voice giggled.
My head darted up, searching and scrutinizing every square inch of air inside the tree circle.
No scent at all, only four naked wolves and a bunch of greenery.
"Who and what are you?" I used my Alpha voice of command.
"My name is L.W. nice to meet you!"
--I was going to end it here also but tHE SHOW MUST GO ON--
"What are you?!"
"I find it very hard to take you seriously when you're totally naked and in a very provocative pose I must say, Mr. Alpha dude." My wolf growled deeply at her disrespect.
"You killed my parents." My voice was low and deadly. I was still searching for her in the midst of the trees.
"I was teaching my students how to properly defend themselves from werewolves, an Alpha and Luna more specifically." She had the nerve to laugh.
"Who do you teach?" I wanted to burn the place to the ground and kill every single person inside with it.
"Now now, that would be too much information to share with you wouldn't it? How do I know you won't use it in a way that would rub my reputation in the dirt?" I was about to retaliate but the disembodied female kept talking.
"I mean, you not even facing the right way!" An invisible hand went over and plucked my clothes off a branch and flung them to my face. I caught them and tugged my shorts on. I'm so fucking confused.
"The students each got to practice on different werewolves from many packs, my best pupils snagging a powerful leader.
"You obviously weren't picked, my students agreed to leave such a youngling like you to at least try and rebuild your pack and be strong enough to take them on."
I snapped and lunged in the direction where the clothes were thrown.
