Chuuya POV -
I knock on the front door of Dazai's home. He invited me to come over for dinner earlier today. This isn't an unusual thing. My parents are absent most of the time. When they are home, I'm practically invisible to them. Dazai's mother is aware of this. Because of that, she invites me over for dinner frequently. She pities me or something. Nevertheless, she is a kind woman and a good cook. I wouldn't mind coming over if it weren't for that idiot Dazai. He's obnoxious, a slob, lazy, and just annoying. Hell, the reason we became friends is because he kept begging to cheat off of my assignments! Still, he's my best friend. That doesn't keep me from getting irritated with him sometimes though. After a minute of waiting, I can hear someone inside fumbling to unlock the door. It must be Dazai's mother. She's a kind lady but she can be a little much sometimes. Sometimes I wonder where Dazai gets his sluggish personality from. Definitely not his mother. She's too organized and nice for him to get it from her. Maybe his father. I've never met the man but from the stories I've heard, I don't plan on it. His mother finally opens the door. "Chuuya!" She exclaims. "I was starting to wonder when you'd show up."
"Thank you for inviting me, Tane."
"Oh, it's no problem!" She reassures me. "Now, dinner isn't quite done yet. In the meantime, you can hang out with Osamu." She points to his room, I nod. I walk down the hallway to his room. I come over just about every week at this point, so finding his room is no problem for me. I open the door and freeze upon seeing the state his room is in. Dirty clothes were strewn across the floor. All of his missing homework assignments could probably be found on the pile of crumpled papers on his desk. Once he noticed I was standing in the doorway, Dazai jumped up out of his bed. "Chuuya~!" He exclaims. "What the fuck do you think this is?" I ask, gesturing to his mess of a room. "What do you mean?" He asks, innocently. "You know what I mean, asshole. Do you ever even leave your bed?"
"Only to see Chuuya!" I groan. "You really are a dumbass, aren't you?" Dazai ignores me. "I was thinking we could watch a movie and then-"
I cut him off. "The first thing we're doing is cleaning this mess."
"But Chuu~!"
"Don't fucking call me that ever again."
"Why? It's cute!" I throw a wad of clothes at him upon the comment. He yelps. "Just help me clean your room already! Then maybe you'll actually be able to walk around!" I say while stumbling over the piles of clothes, books, and whatever else might reside on his floor. At this point, I don't want to know.
I start by sorting through the papers on his desk while he cleans up the clothes on the floor. He had started by trying to sort through the dirty and clean clothes but halfway through we decided to wash them all. We chatted about school and video games while we cleaned. Our conversations were accompanied by me telling him to fuck off every other sentence.
Eventually, all that was left was to organize the mound of books next to his shelf. Since it was the last thing left, we worked on it together. We started by sorting the books by authors name in alphabetical order. I pick up a book titled The Complete Guide to Suicide. "The fuck is this?" I ask. Dazai grins. "It's not fucking funny, answer my question bastard!"
"You always tell me to read more! Besides, I'd never use any of the methods in that book. They're all too painful."
"You're the most confusing suicidal person I've ever met." Dazai smiles again. "I try." I groan. "Just get back to organizing!"
"Fine, fine." We begin putting the books on the shelf. It's only when we're halfway through organizing that something happens. We both reach for a book at the same time, causing our hands to touch. Even such a small gesture sent a shock through my body, causing my face to go red. His hands are so cold. I stare at our hands for a minute before Dazai looks up at me. I realize that he noticed my reaction. I slap his hand away. "Chuuya-kun~!" Dazai grins. My face gets redder. "What! I just got startled."
"Mhm." I groan and put the book on his shelf. There's a knock at the door. "Come in!" Dazai says. His mother walks in. "Dinner is ready, boys." Finally. I was beginning to think I'd never be able to get away from Dazai.
Dinner was wonderful. I hate to admit it but I really don't mind coming over for dinner. Tane, Dazai's mother, is a great cook. After eating, Dazai and I headed back to his (now clean) room. "Now can we watch that movie?" Dazai begs. "Fine, whatever." I say, plopping onto his bed. He ends up picking one of those stupid horror movies where they make all of the wrong decisions and you can guess what'll happen. At some point, I end up dozing off.
I wake up to a blanket wrapped around me. I look over to see Dazai sitting next to me, eyes glued to the tv screen. I never understood how he enjoys these movies. He notices that I'm awake. "You're awake!" He smiles. I yawn. "How long was I asleep?"
"Only about thirty minutes." He responds. "I wrapped the blanket around you because you were shivering." I notice that his hand arm is also wrapped around me. I silently scoot away. Pulling my phone out of my pocket, I check the time. "I need to get going," I say and get up. "It's cold out, take a coat." Dazai says, getting up and reaching for a coat. "I don't need anything from you."
"Come on, you'll get sick if you go out there without a coat!"
"Look who's talking."
"I'm serious, Chuuya."
I give in. "Fine." I say, taking the coat from him. "Bye bye, Chuu~!" I groan. "I told you to stop calling me that." He grins. "See you at school." I say, before leaving.
Walking home is never fun when I know my parents are going to be home from work. Walking home isn't fun in general, but I have no other way of getting home. Why was his arm wrapped around me? Why did my heart feel like it was going to leap out of my chest when our hands touched? I didn't have much time to think about this because as soon as I walked through the front door, my parents were waiting for me at the table. This is unusual. As mentioned before, my parents normally aren't home and even when they are I'm invisible to them. I stare at them and slowly shut the door behind me, taking Dazai's coat off.
"Where have you been, Chuuya?" My mother asks. "Dazai's house." I respond. I place my hands in my pockets while I stare at the ground. She looks at my dad. "I told you." I don't know what it means but obviously it's something about Dazai. "Just tell me what you want already." I'm pretty pissed off at this point. Right now I really wish I was just invisible to them. "Chuuya, we're moving."
My eyes widen. "Shut up, I'm going to my room." My mother stops me. "Chuuya, we're serious. Your dad got a new job." I'm silent. I don't want to believe it. I always say I can't stand Dazai but really truthfully, I don't know what I'd do without him. "You realize that my opinion matters too, right? What about me?" I say. My dad groans. "Just shut up already." I scoff at the comment. My mom cuts in. "It'll be good for you anyways."
"What do you mean by that?" I ask. "Well, you don't need to be around that Dazai boy."
"And why the hell is that?"
"Because he's gay."
I freeze. "What the fuck is wrong with you?"
I'm done with them. I can't fucking do this. I storm off to my room and lock the door before falling onto my bed. We can't be leaving. This can't be happening. Bad things happen to me, but this is the last thing I'd expect. Then again, why do I care so much about Dazai? Why does it matter to me? I'm supposed to hate him. So then, why do I feel so weird around him? Is what my mother said true? I feel like my world is flipping upside down. There's one thing I understand, though.
I'm in love with Osamu Dazai.
