We crept through the darkness, a small light shimmering through the crack in the material Pim and I made to hide the inside of our Annex. My new friend Annabel stifled a giggle as a rat tickled her ankle, being as swift as an arrow. I dragged the fur blanket across the dusty floor, careful not to disturb the snoring Peter who lay in the corner with a book on his face, dust floating like snow.

Annabel brushed the floor, laid down the blanket and put a smile on her face that shone so bright that it made me smile. It soon disappeared and was replaced by fear, as we heard several bombs explode, shaking the whole room and waking Peter up from his sleep. He looked surprised as he saw us and moved like a floppy teddy bear towards the trapdoor. I sat next to Annabel, straightened my skirt and relaxed, taking in the comfort of the room. She picked up her favourite story, my story, “Cady’s Story”, which lay next to my red-and-white-checkered autograph album that I received on my birthday the year before.

Her smile soon returned as she turned the page to the worn out drawing, which was used as a cover. I sat there, watching her as she flicked through the pages, laughing in the funny parts that I deliberately made to see her smile. She seemed so free and oblivious of the fact that she was a Jew, like me, and that there was a war going on right this minute. Her head jerked up quickly as another bomb interfered the peacefulness. This was quickly followed by a scream from Mrs. Van Daan. We laughed together as we heard Mr. Van Daan shout at her for dropping his “precious” jam tea!

We gathered our stuff to go back downstairs, leaving an imprint of ourselves in the dust. It was time for lunch! Lunch included: Strawberry jam on bread, strawberries with sugar and strawberries for dessert! Strawberries everywhere! They shall soon haunt my dreams! The smell of strawberries has intoxicated me, leaving the adults drunk with the sweetness. Later on, we went into the bedroom I share with Mr. Dussel (the horrible man), his stench staining the air. We played together for some time and before we knew it, it was time for dinner! Lentil soup (yuck!) with bread and strawberries for dessert AGAIN. I lay down and saw Annabel, my imaginary friend, disappear and my eyes closed to a deep slumber.

This was written for an Anne Frank assessment at school. But accidently, I didn't do it properly so this is the wrnog version ^_^

Enjoy~!
