"Lee Seojin."
Seojin snapped her eyes open at the call of her name, blinking away the disorientation as her eyes quickly adjusted to the bright sunlight pouring through the window. With her mind still foggy from her slumber, she glanced around confusedly and realized that the entire class was staring at her. Their faces were scrunched together as they struggled to stifle their laughter, a few failed and chuckled out loud at the girl's obliviousness.
Great. She was caught dozing off in class again.
With a defeated sigh, she slowly lifted her gaze to meet her teacher's disapproving glare. "Could you interpret this sentence as well?" Miss Park asked with a stoic expression, and Seojin awkwardly scratched her head as she felt her cheeks growing hot from the embarrassment.
"What were you doing last night that made you so tired today?" Miss Park asked as a subtle sigh fell from her lips, her brow creasing in worry at the young girl's dissatisfactory performance at school. "Uh—I was just studying," Seojin lied, putting on the best innocent smile she could manage as she beamed brightly at the woman.
"Okay then," The English teacher nodded her head dejectedly, before turning her gaze to the boy sitting a few rows beside Seojin. "Baresu, stand up," Miss Park called out. Suhyeok immediately ceased his chattering with his friend and shot up at his teacher's words, the same look of bewilderment on his face.
Seojin's lips pulled up into an amused grin as her eyes lingered on the distracted boy, suddenly realizing the slight similarity between the two of them. The class quickly shifted their attention from Seojin to Suhyeok as Miss Park continued on, "Why is your name Baresu, anyway?"
Suhyeok simply kept a tight-lipped smile on his face while Joonyoung answered the question for him, "It's short for Barefoot-Suhyeok, Baresu." The nearby Daesu quickly joined in on the fun, "He hates wearing socks, so he stinks a lot,"
The class erupted into laughter, and Suhyeok found himself smiling along with his peers. "Okay, Baresu. What did Namra just say?" Miss Park asked with a smile. "Let's see if you're paying attention or if you're dozing off like Seojin over there," she added jokingly, and Suhyeok craned his neck to look at the girl with a nervous smile.
"Well—she was absolutely correct," he answered with a nod of his head, skillfully trying to dodge the question while his classmates giggled at his lame antics. "So what was her absolutely correct interpretation?" Miss Park hummed out with a grin, refusing to let the boy off the hook easily this time.
His eyes darted around the room awkwardly while he wracked his brain for an answer that wouldn't get him into trouble. "Uh—well—wait what?" Suhyeok's stammering came to a halt when his eyes landed on a dark silhouette outside the door.
The wooden doors slid open, revealing a bloodied Hyeonju who had been missing since that morning. She slowly stumbled inside the classroom, and the entire class gasped in horror upon noticing the crimson red blood covering her nose and lips.
