From @/Fuckyamcha on ao3:

"I would love to see some Sam/Demetri fluff if you're down for writing that! I feel like they have potential. ♥️"

This one is definitely a rare pair but the idea of Demetri adoring Sam (and vice versa) is too cute to pass up :-)

This takes place in season 2, when Demetri first joins the dojo

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Demetri hadn't had a crush on a real girl in a very long time.
He had mountains of crushes on fictional girls (and some guys sprinkled in as well), be it movies, books, or graphic novels. Girls--women--with incredible power, who spoke their mind but were still sweet and beautiful. Women who could kick his ass in no time flat but still sweep him off his feet in a more romantic sense as well.
Samantha Larusso was so much like his perfect comic book heroine.
She had flaws, undoubtedly, and Demetri knew she was far from perfect, as any real person was. But even so, when he glanced at her practicing kata or hitting the punching bag, a sheen of sweat sparkled on her skin and passion danced in her eyes. There was one time (admittedly, the memory pops into his brain even if he doesn't want it to) where Sam had held his hips to redirect the angle of his punches, and he could have sworn his soul floated up and out of his body.
Demetri wasn't actually thinking of making a move, not with Mr. Robby "hot stuff" Keene practicing without a shirt on like he was in some kind of karate music video. He knew they were living together because of Robby's home life, and Demetri did really like the guy despite his jealousy, he just knew that Robby and Sam getting together was inevitable.
Not to mention, Demetri imagined Mr. Larusso wouldn't be very happy if his daughter were with a shrimp like himself. If it weren't for the nature of his dojo to take all the losers, he imagined he would have been kicked out thirty seconds in.
Even so, that didn't stop Demetri from picking up on his training eventually, and becoming better friends with Sam and Robby once he was (sort of) on their level. He figured that he would get over his puppy crush on Sam eventually and happily third wheel the pair once they finally figured things out.
One day after practice, Demetri had out his sketchbook and his after-practice Gatorade (Robby had picked out Glacier Freeze this week). He'd been sketching the pose of a woman character earlier, dressing her up as Captain Marvel. Robby had went into the house, and Sam was dipping her feet in the koi pond to cool down. Demetri tried not to stare, but he was not-so-secretly using her as a reference, drawing her in the Captain Marvel costume. He did give her the nickname "Captain Marvel" after all.
This had to be the stupidest, most embarrassing thing to draw.
Demetri was so busy fine-tuning the sketch, he hadn't noticed when Sam got out of the pond and made her way over. She sat down beside him, making him jump slightly and hold the sketchbook close.
"Whatcha drawing, Demetri?" She asked, sunnily as ever.
She cared about him, too. She wasn't just being friends with him because some teacher or parent told her to be nice (at least, he hoped not). Sam actually enjoyed being his friend and geeking out with him. That was why he liked her so much.
"Nothing," Demetri shrugged. With other people, that would be that, but Samantha knew how to break his walls down. Over the years, he'd been bullied for generally being a geek, so he learned not to share his interests too much. That kind of thing didn't work with Sam, though. One raised eyebrow, and Demetri was showing her the sketch with flushed cheeks.
"That doesn't look like Captain Marvel," Sam said reluctantly. "I watched the movie, after you gave me the nickname. My dad's a Marvel nut, but I had only seen, like, half of them..." she looked back down at the drawing and then touched her own brown curly hair. "It kind of..." she looks uncertainty back up at Demetri. "It looks like me, a bit." She smiles.
"It is," Demetri says, too quick and flustered even for himself. "I mean...if that's not weird. Is that weird? I just gave you the nickname, and I didn't know what to draw, so..." he shrugged, as if it was no big deal.
"You're an amazing artist," Sam replies, her fingertips carefully feeling along the edge of the page. Her nails are painted white, and she's wearing a ring with a butterfly on it. "Could I have this? It'd look really cool in my room, I think..."
Demetri is flabbergasted that Sam isn't creeped out, much less that she actually wants the drawing. "Sure, go ahead." He carefully tears out the page and hands it to her. "I'm glad you like it, Sam..."
Sam grins up at Demetri before looking down at the drawing and frowning, then glancing back up at him. "Demetri, can I ask you something?"
Oh, no. Here it comes. "Sure, what's up?"
"Robby just...he keeps teasing me and saying that...that you have a crush on me, maybe...? And I was just wondering if there might be any truth to it or if he's just being...dumb..." Sam laughs to herself, almost incredulously.
Demetri automatically shakes his head. "Of course Robby would say that. I thought you two were the ones with crushes on each other." He says, not answering the question.
Sam seems to take notice of this. "I don't have a crush on Robby, and I don't think he's interested in dating right now. He's good-looking, and we fight well together, but...that spark just isn't there..."
"Hm," Demetri hummed, trying to sound uninterested. It wasn't as if we wanted to jump for joy and go tell the koi about how Sam didn't have a crush on the hottest guy in the dojo. "Well...I do think that you're attractive...out of my league...and sweet and smart...I'm strangely into the fact that you could easily kick my ass—" he smiles to himself as he hears Sam laugh at that. He looks up at her. "So, yeah, if you want to call that a crush...then I'm just curious what you'd call a date."
Demetri realizes that just because Sam doesn't have a crush on Robby, that doesn't mean she'd be into him. But he has a pint of Ben and Jerry's waiting for him at home, it wouldn't be the first time he's cried it out over anything.
"Golf-in-stuff, tonight maybe? We could get shakes afterwards...I think that sounds fun, right?" Sam asks, and she sounds uncertain. Demetri can't think of the slightest idea why.
"Yeah, that sounds great." Demetri tries not to smile wide like some ecstatic little kid. He stands, and Sam does too, because he'll have to drive home and come back in clothes more decent than his workout outfit.
"Great," Sam breathes, and she leans in and kisses his cheek, her own cheeks flushed pink as she pulled away.
Like any anime, Demetri had to grab his soul and push it back into his body to prevent it ascending into the astral plane.
This one was short, but it seemed like a good place to end it because the rest would just come off as awkward
I enjoyed this! They're both really sweet and writing them together strangely makes sense. I also support the cute idea of Demetri and Sam both (platonically?) thirsting over Robby. Or making it a thruple
Demetri talks to the koi in the koi pond. I don't make the rules.
Until later,
