CHAPTER 3

“You owe me big time Drake.” I said as I hugged him.

“Yes I do. You guys are the best.” He told me and Liz.

We walked out as Drake took in a deep breath and says, “I’m so glad to be out of there.” I was really happy that I helped him get out of that horrible jail.

“How did you get the money Jess?” asked Liz as Drake looked at me waiting for an answer.

“I had some in my saving account and some money here and there.” I lied. I couldn’t tell them what was really going on. “But that’s not what’s important now. What going to happen to the club.” That was one thing I hadn’t thought about at all.

“We have to shut it down.” Drake said.

“What! No! Where will we dance? Are you sure you have no other place for us.” I pleaded.

“Look for now, the club is closed, until further notice. I have to head on home, get a few things straightened up with my people.” He lived with his uncle and aunt. He was a single, free man. Without parents so pretty much he was free.

“Bye.” Liz and I said as he got into the car. We were both disappointed as we walked over to our cars.

“What are we going to do now?” Liz asked me.

“I don’t know honestly. I don’t know.”

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

As I drove home I turned up the stereo and listened to Scream and Shout by Will.I.Am. I sang along, and only though about the amazing choreography we can do for this song. I turned to the curb of the Café. I notice Sam’s car isn’t there and I really don’t care if he was.

“Hey Betty Betty!” I called out.

“I’m in the back.” I walked over to the back and I see her sitting on the floor. She looks depressed and mad. I knelt and put my hand over hers.

“What’s going on?” I was worried to what she would say.

“I have to shut this place down.” My world was going to end in 2 more seconds. One…Two….BOOM!

“Why?” I was still alive but the heartache ran through my body, like death has struck it.

“I can’t pay the rent. I’m over 6 months late. I can’t do this anymore.” She burst into tears, and usually I would have stayed strong and held my tears, but today was not the day. I sat down with her and cried to.

After an hour I walked over to the door and turned the sign to say CLOSED when Sam ran to the door. I jumped a little and opened the door.

“Why closing so early?” he jumped into the Café. I was really in no mood to deal with him or anything really. He looked around and noticed boxes and I think he felt the sadness that lingered in the room. “Are you okay.”

“No Sam I’m not. The café is shutting down. Any last words.” I was going to start crying again when Betty walked in and welcomed him.

“Why? Betty what happened?” he asked.

“Well son, what should I say? Many people don’t have it good like you and Jess. I’m struggling for this store for over two years now, and I think that’s enough.”

“So you’re just going to quit. We can help pay.” He looked at me and I bit my lip holding back the tears.

“I don’t want your money!” Betty was mad, she knew that he only wanted to help, but she has had enough with the piety.

“Fine not my money. We can put together a bake sale, to help this place.” He looked at me and came closer. “I know I don’t know this place as much as you, but we can’t quit. You can’t quit. Betty can’t quit.”

“Child, a bake sale is not going to do a thing for this place.” Betty went to the back. Sam and I were left alone.

“I know you’re trying to help Sam but Betty has had enough really. You should head home. Don’t worry about Betty I’ll stay with her. Thanks anyway.” I patted his shoulder and followed Betty to the back. This was going to be a long night.
