Eight-
Dawn texted me last night, saying that everything has been checked out and Jamie and Chloe are ready for Skylar. Right on time too, graduation is a few days away, and I wasn't planning to spend my summer taking care of an adorable one year old.
That calls for another trip to see Trinity, maybe even the last one. When she calls to talk to Skylar we rarely talk, and I defiantly didn't tell her about what happened with Crystal. This trip is going to be heartbreakingly sad because this is the trip I have to tell Trinity about my plans with Skylar.
The Friday we leave I go to school for half the day. I'm leaving in the middle of lunch, which is currently right now, so I'm at my locker, getting my things ready, when someone leans against the locker beside mine. My body stiffens, already knowing who it is.
Seeing her is like a breath of fresh air. Maybe she'll forgive me. Or maybe she'll kiss me. I've been dreaming about those full, pink lips of hers...
"I want to go with you to see Trinity," Crystal says, making my heart deflate.
"How do you know I'm seeing Trinity?" I ask, closing my locker.
"Your mom told me." Of course she did. "Are you going to tell her about Skylar's adoption?"
Nodding, I start heading to the front doors. "She's leaving next Saturday."
Crystal goes to a stand still, which cause me to pause. "Are you okay?"
"That soon?" She asks, her voice barely audible.
I nod, my heart heavy. Most everyone loves Skylar tremendously.
We continue waking until we're at my car. "My stuff is already in the trunk so we don't need to stop at my place," Crystal says once we're in. I don't even question how she got into my car.
The ride to my place is silent, so I turn on the radio. Crystal's leans her head against the window, eyes shut. I don't try to talk to her, she's giving off this vibe that says she doesn't want to talk to me.
Crystal stays in the car while I go into the house and get Skylar, her bags already packed and neatly stacked on the kitchen table. I find my family in the living room, Skylar and Chelsea playing with blocks, Christian on his phone, Mom and Dad on the couch, watching the news.
"Hey honey, all set?" Mom asks when I walk into the room.
"Yeah." Skylar's head snaps away from her blocks and she sees me. Giggling, she stands up and walks a few feet before falling on her butt. She ends up at my feet, looking up at me with those big blue eyes that no one can resist. Somehow they've gone from my brown to Trinity's light blue. It's amazing. "Hey Skylar." I pick her up. "Are you ready to see mommy?"
She nods quickly. "Be carful, love you," Mom says. I grab the bags from the table.
"See you all later, love you," I say before leaving the house.
Crystal is leaning against the car when I step out of the house. Her bright smile shines when she spots Skylar. As I come closer her baby talking starts. "Oh my, look who has grown." Crystal steals Skylar from me and straps her into her car seat.
"I'm going to sit back here with Sky," Crystal tells me, making herself comfortable in the seat right of Skylar's car seat.
"Whatever you want," I mutter and start the car. Through the mirror I can see her rolling her eyes.
I think this is Skylar's best trip. She doesn't cry once, a little whining, she slept most of it, along with Crystal.
At the hotel I get a room with two twin beds, figuring Crystal won't want to sleep in the same bed as me.
