It had been sundown for a while, the freezing wind blew at the old gray shaggy she-cat bringing a powerful pain to her skin. The rain was pouring down harder than ever and she could hardly keep her paws on the ground. Every once in a while there would be a large rumble followed by a quick streak of light. She didn't know why she was here or what brought her here.

She was alone for hours, and there was no sight of any other creatures left in the forest, as if they all vanished in the storm. She screwed up her face as a huge gust of wind blew her backwards onto the ice cold ground. Her whole body full of pain, she unsheathed her claws and gripped the cold earth. It took her time, but she had finally gotten the strength to pull herself back up onto her feet. She mumbled something to herself but the loud rumbling of the storm swept it away.

So cold... So dark... She cried out, hoping there wasn't somebody else out there suffering like she was. She wanted to know where she was so she could get herself back to camp. The cat let out a cursing yowl and turned her head to see a large lightning bolt strike the ground. It lit up the whole forest, showing everything as if it were daylight out. "What's going on?!" She yowled into the wind. It carried her voice beyond the uplands far ahead. Her face was full of fear.

A few heartbeats after the light flashed away she suddenly realized what was going on. She looked down at her paws and clenched her teeth together. "Starclan..." She whispered hoping she didn't make them angry for not realizing that they were the ones that brought her here.

She looked up to the sky, her fur was rapidly swaying in the wind and she showed a facial expression of fear. "Starclan... I understand what's going on! Just please tell me the message!"

She watched expecting them to send it to her any second now, but her expectations were wrong. Starclan chose to let her sit in the ice cold wind and wait. This better be something good! She thought to herself.

Time passed slowly while she watched nothing come. She was aching now. She wanted to be back in her warm nest that waited for her in the medicine cat den where moss hung from the entrance blocking off the wind, and where her apprentice waited patiently to be taught the ways of a medicine cat.

It was raining harder and the wind blew stronger. The trees were swaying rapidly back and forth.     She almost lost hope in waiting when suddenly a large bolt of lightning came flying down many foxlengths away. It was racing quickly towards a tree. Meadowthorn couldn't believe the speed of the bolt, but before she had time to think about it the streak hit the tree. It lit up everything in the forest and she stood shocked. The tree fell, she painfully yowled.

She looked to her side watching a cat appear beside her shoulder. "Bramblestar?" She sounded surprised watching the Starclan tom turn his head to look at her.

The tom stood there, watching her step closer to him. "You are a very wise medicine cat, Meadowthorn." He whispered. His voice was quiet but strong.

She shook her head and meowed, "What's going on?" Her thoughts were full of signs that could be told to her. He could tell us the clans are going to end... Maybe two clans will unite and destroy us... Maybe there will be no end to this war...

Bramblestar walked closer to where their muzzles were a mouse length apart. "You are wrong, Meadowthorn."

Her eyes opened wide in shock. How did he know what she was thinking? "Well, tell me then." She closed her eyes and prepared for the truth.

"The one that can save you all will be destroyed by his very own fate." He paused to let her open her eyes in shock. "Good luck." He meowed and before she could ask anymore questions another bolt struck the ground and blinded her. By the time she could see clearly he was gone. Once more before closing her eyes she whispered, "Fate." and the whole earth around her was swallowed into darkness.

                                      *******

Outside the medicine cat den, a white she-cat with a brown tail, paws and ears was licking herself clean. She perked her ears to a loud cry coming from inside the den. She immediatley turned to the den entrance. Pushing the moss aside that was hanging from the entrance she peered in and looked for the medicine cat. "Meadowthorn? Was that you?" She meowed beggining to pad over to Meadowthorn who was swiping her paws as she slept.

The medicine cat apprentice was groaning by the time Hazelstar had passed her. She better get some rest! Hazelstar thought as she reached Meadowthorn. She's going to need it if she's going to the gathering tomorrow night.

When she was finally a pawstep away from Meadowthorn's body she gave the old she-cat a nudge with her nose. "Sunrise already?" Meadowthorn groaned. She turned over and covered her head with her paws not checking to see who had come to wake her up.

Hazelstar bent down to see if Meadowthorn was going to uncover her face and look up. "No Meadowthorn. You were meowing in your sleep, were you having a bad dream?"

Meadowthorn jerked her head up and stared Hazelstar in the eye just now realizing what had happened. "No Hazelstar... It was Starclan..." She closed her eyes to remember what was told to her.

The leaders eyes opened wide in shock. "A message from Starclan? So they didn't give up on us... What did they tell you Meadowthorn?"

Meadowthorn shook her head and waited a moment to reply, "They said the one that can save us all be destroyed by his own fate... I-I'm not sure who though... I think they left something out."

Hazelstar's expression turned to a frown, she started thinking about Starclan and what they have done. "How are they going to let a powerful warrior be destroyed by something so simple?" Her words came out harshly. She couldn't stand to hear this and began to regret even coming in here to check on Meadowthorn.

Meadowthorn's eyes opened in shock at her leaders harsh words to Starclan. "Hazelstar... I-I don't know... But we mustn't give up on them. We have to accept what they are telling us. Some things are just too powerful for them to control."

Hazelstar finally gave up on her argument and nodded in agreement. "Alright Meadowthorn. I guess I will accept this from Starclan but please let me know if they send us another message." She got up and began to walk to the exit of the den. Meadowthorn lay down and curled up on her moss nest and slowly drifted asleep again.
