"Hello Mr Manton." She had a soft but stern voice and she gave him a hard stare, like she could see into his very soul.
"Um, Hello Miss Tuppence."
"That's Detective Tuppence to you, shall we get to it? I don't really believe in niceties anyway."
Mordorph nodded and followed her over to the cork board where the mysterious figure was standing just moments ago.
Detective Tuppence made lots of hand gestures as she spoke, "Last week, a parcel was delivered to Number 34 Ashtree Lane Apatment Complex. Addressed to Apartment 6. Yesterday our agents found it there still. In mint condition."
Mordorph shrugged, "So?"
"So, Mr Manton, its England. It rained last Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday. This parcel should be at the very least damp. We did some nosing around and turns out, Apartment 6 is the only inhabited apartment in the complex. Until 3 days ago, when the person living there, disappeared. When he left, he took with him the parcel -"
"- Wait, but you said your agents found the parcel there yesterday. How could they if this guy took it with him 3 days ago?"
"Because we've had eyes on his house for the past week. On day 5, the parcel disappeared. We checked the Apartment complex and he wasn't there. 2 days later, the parcel reappears, but with no sign of him. The strangest thing is, we have been watching that house like a hawk, and not once did we see anything suspicious other than his face in the window when he was there. Just watching us. As for the parcel, one minute it was there, the next it was not. Its like he's gone in the blink of an eye."
Mordorph was too stunned to speak. This is what you get when you're the nicest guy in the prison. Dragged into unsolvable mysteries like this one. Boy did Mordorph wish he wasn't so nice. Or clever. Or just all-round amazing. Life would be so much easier.
"So," he said, "Do you know who this 'mystery man' is yet?"
Detective Tuppence looked grave, "Yes. The long deceased Joseph Mulberry."
I may continue this story later but this is where it finishes for the Brilliant Minds contest, so I hope you like the cliffhanger!
