You were on the other side of the wall
I reached out a tiny hand
And entwined it
In yours
A thin piece of rope
Tied our hands together
Bound at the wrists
Fragile and sparse
Trembling with our laughter
Neither of us
Decided to let go
We nurtured the string
That binds us together
Growing stronger each day
Crawling upon our skin
Drawing us closer
Together
We were cast in a spell
Of love
For what reason
We do not know
As time passed
The string began to rip apart
By the sheer force
Of the harsh reality
There became a lone strand
Of the occasion
About to snap
Any second, any moment
The things that were splitting us apart
Brought us closer together
It strung us tightly
As if to say
‘There is no backing out now.’
Which neither you
Nor me
Have the intention of doing
Moments of illusion
Clouded my vision
Bound together
Closer
Tighter
Coiled around my neck
Were the loved we shared
Squeezing my breath away
Insides
Threatening to spill
Killing me slowly
“Breathe”
You whisper softly
Unto my ear
Sending shivers
Throughout my body
You held me close
And snapped me
Out of my daze
Realization dawns on me
I may be dying
But I am the most
Alive I have ever been
For I greet death
In your embrace.
