I sat in the velvet seat, people crying and people moaning in agony. The casket sat there, my father's corpse lay there motionless. His skin was pale, his eyes shut. His lips were pursed, almost as if he had one last thing to say. My sister laid her head on my shoulder. Tears streamed down her face.
"Camila, chill. It's really not a big deal. He's dead, so what."
"How could you say something like that, He–" She hiccuped with tears still streaming " He raised you! He, he, he loved you..." She whimpered, pushing her face deeper into my shoulder.
I groaned and pulled out my phone, my sister is annoying sometimes. Her dark hair streamed over her shoulder, almost as if not just her emotions but her whole body was sad.
I scrolled through my phone, darkening my screen as I read a few messages. They were from someone who I know, I should have never associated with. What had happened... never should have happened.
I put my phone away, awkwardly patting my sister on the back then standing up. I lifted my sister off of my body and sat her on the chair that I was sitting on. Standing up, people looked at me. Others seemed like they were feeling pity for me.
I walked past everyone, their faces red and puffy. Everyone except Addison, lingering beside the door. Airpods in her ears and not a single sign of any emotion. She glanced up at me then buried her face back in her phone.
I pushed open the door, nobody stood outside. The air was frigid, icicles formed on the gutters.
The wind whistled through my hair, my scalp becoming cold as the seconds passed. I pulled the hood up from my jacket. The wind is still whistling, the air still chilling. The only thing that changed was the factor of the hood protecting my skin from freezing.
