"Shit, shit, shit" I thought as I ran. My legs felt like they were about to give up and let me fall into the mud and drown in the heavy rain. It was a wonder that the man had gotten away to tell me, but could I make it in time? The downpour made it hard to see where I was going, branches scraped my face and hands. The forest was difficult to navigate in the darkness, but I had to keep going. "I won't let more blood be spilled tonight!" I yelled at only myself.

I shoved the last few branches aside, and halted to a stop. The mud was red with blood. Several dismembered bodies were littered across the ground. Nothing left but unrecognizable bones covered in torn and burned flesh. I stood in horror. Five or so vampires froze where they were standing. I didn't make it in time. The air felt so thick I couldn't breathe, I let people die tonight. I stood frozen with guilt and anger. I clenched my fist tightly, holding on to ground myself. "I'll kill them-" I thought, though through the bloodstained rains and cracks of burning bone, I heard a faint sound. I jerked my head around, one vampire was crouching over a limp body, but I could hear his labored breaths.

I shoved the vampire off the boy, sending him rolling a few times. I clung onto bloody body of the boy. He winced when I touched him. I blanketed his shivering body with the overcoat I was wearing. I paused, looking up at the starting vampires.

"You all are lucky I am on the ground, and not tearing your damn throats out." I hissed, pulling the boy close to my chest, shielding him from the cold and rain. "Get put of here before I decide to hurt you." I snarled. They all ran, tripping over their feet. I took a moment to breathe, not fully knowing what to do.

I felt warm blood run down my arms and chest. Then a light tension on my arm, the boy had grabbed me, trying to squirm away.

"Calm down, I'm here to help you-" I began. His emerald green eyes though dreary and disoriented, were angry, mortified. I recognized those eyes. I froze up, I knew who's blood was on my hands. "...Daniel?" I muttered. I knew he recognized me to. He was my friend, something more, years ago. I shook my head and snapped back to reality. He was to injured and tired to do much, and he would bleed out if I did nothing. "Shit, I need something... anything..." I whispered. I ignored his grunts and groans in an futile attempt to push me away.

I gently set him back on the ground, knowing he couldn't move. I threw around everything that was in the small camp, eventually finding some bags that probably belonged to Daniel and his deceased companions. I searched through them, finding some bottles of alcohol and bandages. I rushed back to Daniel, his eyes were bloodshot and his breaths were barely audible now.

"Keep your eyes on me Daniel." I stammered, biting the quirk out of the bottle of alcohol. I cleaned some of wounds as well I could in the dark. He whimpered as I wrapped some of the bone deep slashes. I wanted to get him home quickly. After I covered most of the deep wounds, I tossed aside the empty bottle and the rest of the bloody bandages. I put an arm on his upper back and one under his broken legs, lifting him to my chest. He winced and squirmed, though he was to weak for it to do a thing. I rushed through the trees again, being extra careful not to hit anything. I hopped over roots and carefully avoided branches. I came upon the candlelit cabin, kicking the door a few times before Lilith opened it. "Help him... please..." I cried, my voice weak and cracking. I didn't want to lose him again. Water and diluted blood dripped onto the ground. My vision became hazy and my limbs were numb. I remembered stumbling into the cabin, but after that I drew a blank.
