Day 1.
I walked into the wrestling room absolutely mortified, terrified, petrified (how many words are there for "so scared you might shit your pants"?). And the first thing I see is Dani talking to the coach, a small wave of relief washes over me because thank fuck. Dani went through with it
"Dani!" I manage to spit out despite my terrified state
"Mac" she practically yells back with a very similar look on her face
"Mac as in Makayla?" the coach asks walking towards me.
"The one and only" I say still practically shitting myself.
"Coach Davis, nice to meet you mac," he says with a smile on his face
The coach continues to talk to Dani about someone (cousin? Brother? I don't know something else pulls my attention) the most beautiful boy walks in and walks right past me towards the small group of boys in the corner and well.. damn.
The coach then grabs my attention again when he asks me a question I didn't quite catch
"I'm sorry what," I ask with what I hope is an apologetic look on my face
"Do you have any family that has wrestled in the past?" he asks again with a light chuckle
"Oh err... Nope I'm a first-generation wrestler, I guess" I say with a smile
"Well that's good, what made you decide to wrestle," he asks
"Well we both play volleyball together and we thought it would be fun to try something new" Dani blurts before I can even open my mouth
"What she said," I say with a laugh before looking back at the beautiful boy once again, but only briefly and looking back to coach Davis.
"Alright you girls go get your shoes on and get ready, we are expecting a few more so we will start in about 10 minutes," Davis says and Dani and I both just nod and walk to an open place on the floor to set our bags down
Once we sit down I just look at her and she seems to already know what I was gonna say
"He's absolutely gorgeous!" she says in almost a whisper
"I know," I say back and she just laughs a little
"He could use a haircut though," she says and I laughed
"Why his hair is already short, I think it's pretty, to be honest," I say glancing at the boy again then back at Dani who looks confused.
"Are we talking about the same one?" she asks with a breathy laugh
"I don't think so" I respond shaking my head and laughing. " which one are you talking about?" I ask
"The one with the curly black hair, I think his name is Oliver but I'm not sure," she says and I look up and there is the curly-haired boy (whose name might be Oliver) who oddly enough is standing right next to the beautiful boy whose name I still don't know.
"He's okay, but the one next to him, the brunette, the one with the curly hair, he's more my type," I say quietly looking back to Dani who is grabbing her shoes from her bag before she turns around to look at the flock of boys in the corner who are sending us glances from the other side of the room as well.
"He's pretty cute actually, but I have no clue who he is.. Do you," she asks
"No, but I'm gonna try to find out I guess" I respond while lacing my shoes up.
Then I see another girl walk in and walk up to the coach, she's skinny, blonde, and looks super athletic, and almost all of the boys turn to look at her. Of course, they do!
Eventually, the girl walks over to Dani and me and introduces herself, her name is Alii think but I didn't actually catch it because when she said because I looked over at the boys because I heard laughing and the beautiful boy and I made eye contact and he smiled. shit. he smiled. at me? what.
But next thing I know coach Davis is yelling for everyone to get going and start running. (excuse me... running?!)

After we finish the warmup from hell (seriously why so much running?) coach has us all meet in the center of the mat where I just happen to be across from the boy. His brown curly hair and beautiful brown eyes are honestly all I can focus on... which wasn't good because coach Davis was making introductions.
I finally snap out of it as coach moves on to introduce Dani and me to everyone (girls on the team is kinda a new concept)
"Boys meet Mac, Dani, and Alii, they are three of our newest members."
I kinda just awkwardly wave while trying my best to avoid eye contact with everyone in the room while Dani instantly introduces herself and starts talking. True Dani fashion right there. And well Alii, she doesn't do anything really.
As we then go around being introduced to all of the coaches and some of the senior boys on the team, another girl walks in. She is very tall and has long curly brown hair, and looks to be just about as mortified as me. I recognize her from volleyball I think she is a senior and played a few years back, Nathalie? I think her name was.
"Hello I'm coach Davis, and you are?"
"Uhh hi, My name is Nathalie, or Nat, whatever you want to call me I guess"
She looks terrified, like a dear in headlights. Granted she was just kind of called out in front of the whole team the second she walked in the room.
"nice to meet you nat, why don't you get your shoes on grab some water, and come join us out here" he smiled kindly at her and he returned back to talking to the circle.
"This season we are gonna change up weights a little bit, starting with you Afton we are gonna have you cut to 160 sound good?" coach asks looking directly at the boy.
"Yup sounds good coach" the boy says while nodding in agreement.
Even his voice is attractive. God damnit, this is gonna be a long season.
