SANDERS' SIDES FANFICTIONS

Something I've always wanted to do was just talk to readers about fanfictions I never published, discontinued or just haven't updated in ages. And what's a better fandom to start with other than Sanders Sides?

A QUICK WARNING FOR SANDERS SIDES FANFICTION SPOILERS!

FANTASIZING A WAR:

My first ever fanfic... The first chapter published on the 21st of November, 2019... Back when I actually updated.

It was never meant to be a series, you know, and the first book was going to have an ending super similar to the end of 'Villains or Heroes'. Basically, I wanted Virgil and Janus to have this huge fight where they turned into giant dragons/snakes and fought each other at the Light Realm palace and it was gonna be super cool and super emotional. I'm glad I didn't do that. It would've been crap.

Also, it was my first time ever writing an actual 'book'. I have some (horrifying) word documents that were my first ever stories and, let me just say, ain't no agency would be so desperate as to want them. I found them a couple months ago (in October, maybe) and read over one that I actually remembered and... jeez... I confused myself.

But back to fanfiction, 'Fantasizing A War' is the sort of book I look back on and cringe but affectionately wince at. I made a lot of first writer mistakes, I feel, or at least a lot of unprofessional errors. I threw in random characters and references, I had no thought for how to get from A to B, plotwise, and I couldn't properly verbalise my ideas. I definitely think I've managed to improve, that being more evident in 'Fantasizing A Peace', which is the third and goddamn final book of the trilogy. I actually have a plot for it and I know what I wanna do with it, when I update.

But then there's the second book. Oh, lord. 'A War For a Family' is crap. It can go and drown itself a pond. Oh my me, I can't stand it. I hated writing it, I hated reading it, I couldn't wait for it to be other. Like my other books, at the time, I charged in with the outline of a plan that looked like projectile vomit and didn't know what I wanted from it. 'War For a Family' wasn't funny, compelling or even all that decent of a fic. It was amateur and just... ugh. I made so many time skips to get it over with and it didn't help it.

Part of me would rewrite the trilogy, if I had the motivation, time and intellectual awareness, but I don't think that'll ever be... I'm a sucker for nostalgia and, for some reason, that twitching, gloopy, frothy mess of a fanfic is nostalgic. It's like looking down at thirteen-year-old me and saying, "Aw, look at you. You think you're cool. Little dumb-dumb."

VILLAINS OR HEROES:   (Trigger warning for EDs)

To this day, I still don't know if it's 'Villains Or Heroes' or 'Villains And Heroes', and, at this point, I don't care. I hate this book. Let me explain.

Something I like to do with my fanfictions is what I call near-complete originality. All my plots should be unique. Every line, every moment, every scene. I want it to be a once-in-a-fandom experience. It's gotten to the point that, for some of my fanfics, they could be original books if I changed the character names. 'Villains Or Heroes' didn't do any of that.

It was inspired by a Sanders Sides Descendants AU fanfic (just spent twenty minutes finding that - it's called 'Rotten to the Core' by Rifff123) and, at the time of me reading it, it hadn't been updated in a while so I just... I pretty much ripped off most of the idea. It's updated but I haven't looked at it since 2020, if I'm honest, so I've got no idea where the plot's gone. It's still definitely better than my one. Go read it, it's good.

The thing I hate most about this fic, though, except for the unoriginality, was my venting. Virgil's eating disorder came out of nowhere and was random when it was brought up. At the time, I was dealing with a very toxic friendship, in which the opposite party had an ED, and I think I was trying to ask for help because I couldn't help my 'friend'. I wish I had never written in the ED because I see vents in fanfics as unprofessional and cringeworthy. That's my personal opinion - I like to read magnum opuses. Besides, that's probably only when I write them, lol. We are our own biggest critic, after all.

Other things I dislike but don't have enough to write about: the Dukeciet was forced in a rush because I wanted a ship chapter and hadn't paid them enough attention; the Maleficent-was-in-Virgil's-head was a last minute rush in order to finish the fic and I hate how much potential I could've had with it if I had thought of it sooner; Ali was the worst villain I've ever come up with and his personality changed like the weather in a post-apocalypse; everyone was out of character; Logicality had no personality or screen time.

SITH HUNTERS:

A lot of you won't know 'Sith Hunters'. It's been unpublished now, because I didn't have any thought on where to go and felt it was rushed, but I quite liked it.

'Sith Hunters' was a Star Wars AU, written after the final trilogy. The Jedi Order was thriving again, the Siths were buried and forgotten and the galaxy was supposed to be at peace. Aside from the fact that Emperor Palpatines' second Sith apprentice, who was supposed to be Reys', survived. Janus, the Sith, fled the planet with Remus and an injured child they found and named Virgil.

Part of me wants to publish it again - I think past-me was being too harsh and I actually think it was pretty good. It was funny ad light-hearted. I'll reread it later, to give you my verdict, but it had about fourteen chapters before unpublishing and also one of the best bits of dialogue ever written:

"Get us up!" He instructed but nothing happened. "Remus!" He snapped, spinning around to face his friend, who was lounging in the drivers' chair with a manual. Janus's' face dropped. "You don't know how to fly?"

"I'm eight, Jan! Can you fly?"

"...Fair point."

Anway, one day this will see the light of day. If you remember it, that means you were here from the seventh of May to the first of July in 2020. You are an og. Have some favouritism.

MESSY MURDER:

Gotta be careful with this one because it's still updating...

I love murder mysteries. Hell, I have a Messy Murder inspired AU for DSMP that I need to write! (Btw, Mirandathing/Mic, that is the 'Detective Nikki and Jack' playlist on Spotify, if you wanna get the vibes), and 'Messy Murder' is just the tip of the iceberg.

Sir Logan Croft, the in-real-life Sherlock Holmes, returns to detecting, eight months after an early retirement. He is sent to Blacksky Manor, with young upstart Roman Milton, to investigate the murder of the house's owner, Ali Blacksky. I can't give too much away because the mystery is still ongoing but woo... It's definitely one of my favourite books I've written.

I love 'Messy Murder' and I have so many other ideas I want to write. Part of me would love to turn it into a series. For example, the second book would be called 'Cops and Corpses' and, ugh, the spoilers I could give!!!

I really want to update it soon. I just need to get motivation and sort out the next running of chapters. I think we need one more chapter to be uploaded before we get a nice, little surprise :)

I hope you liked reading this and I'm planning to make another one, maybe for Sanders Sides or another fandom, soon! This is the equivalent of the podcast I couldn't get to work so, y'know.
