The airport was practically empty. It was 12:48 in the morning and I had a good hour before my plane took off. I stood under the big blinding white airport lights as the girls smothered me in what felt like the thousandth group hug. My dad stood a little ways off holding firmly onto my luggage trying not to cry. So far he was succeeding, while I had tears running down my face.
When I tried to talk, everything came out inaudible, I tried again and I started hiccupping. 'Maybe it's best if I shut up and hug them' I thought and gave them each a kiss on the cheek and another hug.
"Don't forget to tie up your hair, it took me forever to do those microws." Imani said. Earlier, I had begged her to do my braids, so that I wouldn't have to worry for a while. She layered them and gave me bangs with the hair at the end slightly curled. I loved them.
"I want texts by the hour." Lauren demanded, she was in worse shape than I was, and I was the person leaving to some far off place.
"And remember...." Deiondre began, "Don't do anything we wouldn't do." They finished together and the words echoed off the empty airport walls.
I laughed and swiped at my tears, lastly was dad.
He engulfed me in one of those warm protective fatherly hugs, the ones you never want to leave. The tears I had just whipped away were replaced with new bigger ones.
"I'm gonna miss you so much, Bumblebee."
"I'm gonna miss you too, Daddy."
"Remember what you promised."
"Weekly calls, and check ins, and if anything big happens you'll be the first to be called."
"That's my girl."
I sigh as I finally sit after checking my luggage in and finding my gate. It was lots of walking, and stopping, my feet began to hurt. My face felt sticky from my tears, they must've been noticeable because people kept looking. I probably looked a hot mess. 'For so few people I sure felt a lot of stares.'
Suddenly, a guy stopped in front of me. I looked up and was met with chocolatey brown eyes and a sweet smile. His skin was darker than most Koreans, with warm undertones. His dark hair was still a little short as if it was growing back, and to match his hair he wore equally dark clothes consisting of black sweats and a black tee.
"I was kind of sitting there.." He said lightly.
"Oh, crap, my bad. I'm so sorry." I said rushed.
"It's fine," he said, stopping me as I began to rise.
He slipped into the seat beside me and leaned back in his chair.
"So what are you going to Korea for?" His voice was deep and warm, it was starting to seem as if warmth was in everything about him.
"A do over, I guess.." I answer, unsure. My fingers run calmingly over the earth green and cool jade crystals strung around my waist in a set of three strings total. My eyes raked over his body landing on the planes of his muscular biceps, they were thick with lines of contour, he must work out I thought.
"Why are you going to Korea?" I ask my eyes to find him. I swear if I was a white girl I'd be blushing but instead I only feel a burning warmth swarm my face.
"It's my home, I was here for business but now I'm going back."
"What type of bui-"
"Hey, are you okay, your eyes are kinda red and stuff." He cuts me off.
So that's why everyone was staring. I pull my phone out and check my face to see my full lash extensions are surrounding two red eyes. I really do look a hot mess.
