Hannah and I have been waiting for this day our whole lives. The day when we are finally upperclassmen! This year is going to be perfect. Hannah and I have so many classes together and we already have after school plans for weeks. This really can't get any better.
Hannah pulls up to my house in the morning and we have time to grab coffee before school. We drive to a small bakery close to school. Hannah asks "So how many new kids do you think there will be this year?"
"I don't know. Hopefully people other than the "rednecks" that go here"
"Maybe a guy you will actually like!"
"I doubt it. I don't connect with a lot of people here. They just don't understand me."
"You just don't go with what your heart says Ellie. Try it, you never know who you'll find."
Then I look at my watch and realize that it's almost 7:30.
"Hannah we're gonna be late for school!"
"Would you chill?"
"No I can't chill. I have perfect attendance. I've never been tardy or absent!"
"Listen your homeroom teacher is always late and you know that. You have at least 5 extra minutes."
"I guess you're right."
We finish our coffee and head out for school. We walk in just as the bell rings and I rush to get to my homeroom even though I know I have at least 5 minutes to spare. Mrs.Johnson takes attendance and tells all the freshmen to go to the gym for a special activity. I go to first period and am thrilled to see my Spanish teacher, Señora Garcia, looking through piles of papers on her desk.
"Hola Señora!"
"Hola Estrella! How was your summer?"
"It was good. How about yours?"
"It was a dream come true! I finally got to visit the Galapagos Islands with my husband and I still wish I was there to be honest."
"I don't blame you. I still wish I was at my aunts helping out at her bakery."
As we're talking students walk in and sit down. And as usual Hannah runs in just as the bell rings. She takes a seat next to me and we start off with ice breaker games and picking Spanish names. Señora tells us that we have time to work on the Spanish 3 review sheet with our partners. I usually do my work right away but Hannah and I talk about this new kid she saw in the hall.
"He is so hot Ellie! His name is Louis and he has a British accent!"
"Do you know what grade he's in?"
"No but I'm sure you could do a little digging for me." I help out in the office period 11. Sorting papers, making appointments, secretary stuff.
"Fine but you owe me. If I get caught you're dead."
"You're the best Ellie!"
"That's what best friends are for!"
The review is homework for people who didn't finish but oh well. Next is gym, one of my least favorite classes. Today won't be too hard but I hate being sweaty and gross all day. The only upside to this gym class is that Mr.Fields doesn't make you run at the beginning of class. Time goes by fast going through the syllabus. No jewelry, no short shorts for gym, actual sneakers typical gym class rules that nobody follows.
Edible Arts is after gym and I love this class because it reminds me of my aunts bakery. I'm thinking of going to culinary school when I graduate but I'm still undecided. My teacher is so nice too. She grades you on how hard you try not on the perfection of the recipe.
