It was dark and stormy out on the waters. The waves rocked the ship violently, making everyone onboard almost restless. Vincent didn't like the idea of leaving his daughters behind to go on such a long trip, but his wife Paula insisted that Lilac was old enough to do just fine on her own and that two weeks would be a piece of cake. Vincent wondered if dealing with such destructive force of the tides would actually be easy. Even still, Paula didn't seem to be worried at all. His wife sat calmly at a desk with an oil lit lamp by her side. She seemed to be writing something with the ink pen in her right hand.
Vincent Kinroc was just curious as to what she was writing about. "How in the world are you able to write in weather like this? The sound of the ocean is just as loud as the crackling thunder." He said as he gently peered his head over her shoulder to see her cursive handwriting. "I'm writing a letter to our daughters. Just wanted to let them know that we're doing just fine and that they would have no need to worry." Paula grinned.
The rocking ship almost knocked the oil lamp over and Vincent casually reached his hand out to catch it. "Do you even know how you're going to get that letter out to them? The atheras are flightless, you know." "Maybe they don't need to receive the letter right away. I can always hand it to them myself." Paula exclaimed. "If you gave the letter to them yourself then what would the point of writing the letter be then?" "It's always good to write letters to ones you care about Vin. It just shows that you love them."
Once again, Paula was showing that she had more heart than Vincent. But whenever he was around her, he began to understand Paula even more each day, and she never fails to amaze him. Vincent was smart but he was always learning something new from her. Perhaps that was one of the reasons why he fell in love with Paula. She laid her pen down and got up from her seat. "Maybe you oughta try writing some letters? You can improve your penmanship while you do." Paula teased him, casually making fun of his handwriting.
"Haha, very funny..." Vincent responded. Paula gave him a kiss before heading off to bed. Vincent would have liked to join her but there was something he was supposed to do at this time. In fact that's pretty much why he got up to begin with. Vincent headed off to the top deck to switch roles with another person onboard keeping a lookout. Sailing at night was completely dangerous, especially during a storm. Vincent signaled the person he was supposed to switch places with and they swapped places without exchanging any words.
While Vincent was keeping watch, he couldn't help but think about his daughters even more. If this trip they're making was successful then they would be able to afford to move out of Silverlite. To look after his family, he needed to make more gold and Silverlite just wasn't cutting it. He knew making this trip was a tough decision but the pay off would be worth it. Getting in contact with the right business partners, earning enough gold to take care of your family, and even riding a ship like a crazed bull going who knows where was all anxiety inducing.
While Vincent was at the front of the ship, he couldn't help but slowly close his eyes. He inevitably smacked himself awake. He didn't know how, but the loud storm wasn't exactly keeping him awake at all. The rain, waves, and lighting was all he heard for a couple minutes. Then he finally heard something else. The sound of a singing woman. To Vincent it sounded like it was coming from up ahead but being in front of the ship meant he saw nothing. He wanted to be convinced that he was hallucinating but it all felt surreal.
The singing eventually got louder and more feminine voices jumped into the same tune like an ongoing chorus. Freaking out, Vincent assumed that they were in some kind of danger. "Paula!" Vincent called out. He turned around to head back but then a loud rip and tear could be heard from the bottom of the ship. The singing voices were somehow worse than the lightning itself. Vincent couldn't help but cover his ears.
Strange figures with bird legs and human torso's jumped onto their ship. The sudden presence of these creatures made Vincent fall down to his bottom. Vincent could see them all stare straight at him with large dark eyes with no pupils. The ship eventually hit some rocks along some coastline without him realizing. What Vincent was seeing was too otherworldly. It was so mind boggling to him that he couldn't help but pass out, unable to get to anyone that was below deck.
It is unknown what happened to that ship they were on and everyone aboard seemed to have disappeared. It is currently unclear whether or not Vincent, Paula, or anyone else onboard got away safely. Unbeknownst to anyone, the creatures that showed up were only trying to look for what belonged to them but they always turned up empty, just like with every other ship that made its way to the Kingdom of Water.
