"Ugh." Leah said as she rolled over on her side in her bed, as she checks the time. It was 6am and she had to be ready for school in 2 hours. "Leah?" Another voice said on the other side of Leah's bedroom door. It was Joy, Leah's older sister. "It's 6am hurry up and get ready, we don't have much time." Leah gets out of bed and decides to rummage through her closet to find something to wear. Once she was done throwing on her clothes, she went straight to the bathroom to wash her face and brush her teeth instead of eating breakfast. Once Leah had all her things together, she went downstairs to the front door. "You don't have to leave the house until 8 Leah." Her mom said. "Don't you wanna have breakfast before you go?" "No thanks, I'm good." Leah said as she grabbed her bag and headed for the door. Since she didn't feel like waiting for Joy to finish getting ready, she decided to take the bus today. After the 5 minute bus ride, she finally arrives at school and sees her friend Maxine standing outside waiting for her in the courtyard. "Hey Max!" Leah shouts as she waves her hand to get Max's attention. "Lee lee." Max says with a big smile on her face. They both hug and start walking towards the entrance of the school. Leah and Maxine have been best friends since 3rd grade. They were always there for each other when no one else was. Maxine had always been going through alot of things at home and because Leah understood her, she felt comfortable enough to talk to her and that made her grow more attached to her. Leah felt the same way about Max considering that she was always there to comfort her especially through the rough times to when Leah's father passed away. As the two girls make their way into the building, they run into their close friend Jacob who was cleaning out his locker filled with missing homework assignments all bunched up and crumpled into big wads. "Ah there are my favorite lesbians." Jacob says as he brings the two in for a group hug. "We're the only lesbians you know Jacob." Max says as she chuckles. "You're still my favorites though, I can't deny that." Jacob responds. "Good god what's all the papers crowding your locker?" Leah says staring at all the crumpled papers and tissues on the floor. "Just some homework that I never turned in." Jacob replies now pulling baby wipes out of his backpack. "Get some air freshener too your locker smells like shit." Maxine says covering her nose. "Oh hush my locker does not smell." Jacob protests. Leah happens to see in the corner of her eye, a teacher staring directly at them and all the papers on the floor. "Jacob?" Leah says in a panicked voice. "You should probably get all these papers up and throw them-." "Excuse me young man!" A loud voice cuts Leah off. The three of them turn around to see a white haired teacher staring at them in disgust. "Would you care to explain to me why there's so many papers on the floor and they're coming from your locker?" "Oh don't worry miss." Jacob says in a polite tone. "I'll pick them up, I promise." The teacher nods and walks away from them. "Hey uhh..." Jacob says. "Can you guys maybe help pick all this stuff up?. "Sure." The two say in unison, and they help pick up all the papers. Once they were finished cleaning up everything else in the hallways, the bell to their fist class rang. (End of Chapter 1)
