You had spent an hour trying to decide what to wear, but since Sujin had not specified what you were going to do tonight, you had opted for something casual and comfortable. The sun had set and the cold was creeping in through the fabric of your jeans. You refused to acknowledge that winter was here already, but begrudgingly you has put on your thick coat and now you were grateful for it, at least your upper body was warm. It was 10 minutes before you were supposed to meet Sujin when you arrived at the address she send you. The side street was less busy and the icy wind had free reign, tugging on your clothes.
Should I go inside? But maybe then she doesn't find me. No, I will just wait here. You moved from one foot to the other to keep them from freezing stiff, as you read the menu that hung next to the door. The place was a bar with a lot of different kinds of Gin and countless cocktails. Something about the menu caught your attention. Sujin, in your opinion, was more of a tropical-themed bar kind of person, but this menu with its dark background, elegant font, and selection of drinks did not fit with that image in your head. Maybe I was wrong about her?
Sujin was ten minutes late and you did not waste any time before going inside. The warm air behind the door felt like lava on your cold hands and you wiggled your fingers to get the blood flowing again. Maybe it would have been better to go inside earlier, but now the only thing you could do was rub your hands and pray for the pain to end.
Close to the door was a small cloakroom. The young woman behind the counter was dressed in black and took your coats to the back. When you saw what your friend was wearing, a small "Oh, wow" slipped out.
Sujin looked at you and smiled. The dress she was wearing was a dress to impress that much was certain. It end in the upper third of her thighs and the countless small stones on the fabric sparkled in the dim light. You were totally underdressed and she saw it too. Sujin scanned your jeans and fluffy cardigan before saying:
"You look nice too."
It was a lie and your heart sank, you should have worn something nicer than this. Now everyone could immediately tell who of you two was the wallflower, who had not been on a date for ages. A hard ball of anxiety was settling in your gut as you followed Sujin down the hallway to the bar. You hated that feeling.
The bar was dimly lit by the small lamps that hung from the ceiling, illuminating each dark wood table individually. A murmur filled the room, voices of the people talking quietly to each other. A lot of the patrons were older men in suits, ties loose, but with their business faces. It seemed like a place where important deals were struck over a glass of whiskey and you wondered why Sujin would want to come here. She walked over to a free table near the counter without checking if you were still following her. It was one of the things you disliked the most, being abandoned by people, that they just assumed you would follow like a good puppy like you were not important enough to check up on. It's just what your brain is telling you, Sujin likes you, don't listen to that part of yourself.
