I had always been a hard worker. I always tried my best at everything and couldn't bear to let go of opportunities to make myself look better. With the blessing of high IQ and talent, everything was easy for me as though I am a child loved by the heavens.
But in reality, as a love deprived unwanted child, I could only do whatetever I could do to survive. I smile when I have to and always behave with the best attitude.
Yet somehow as a child I realized being the best isn't enough. I had to do more to ensure everyone will have permanent good will and impressions towards me. I had to somehow make other people like me too. If possible, I want them to love me.
This way, I won't have to suffer at all.
As long as I show everyone the good and best sides of me...
As long as I pick who I should be closely acquainted with wisely...
As long as everybody likes me...
Nothing in my life could possibly go wrong.
"Seon-Ho, can you help me read these words too?"
One of the boys in class who had a good family background, asked while I was surrounded by the girls who requested for my help.
I stared at his somewhat embarrassed face and smiled.
"Sure."
Of course. Why won't I help you? When you could very well be the key that will help me ease the tension between me and the boys.
It may be due to my popularity with the girls and adults combined with my excellent performance at school and attitude that boys hate me so much.
And for me that is an extremely unacceptable fact.
I don't want anyone to hate or dislike me. My goal is to be liked by everyone so that no matter what happens, I'll be safe for the most time.
After all, with ready made defense lines, who could truly hurt me? And with a good number of people who would willingly do the dirty deeds for me, why would I ever need to lift a finger against anyone?
In fact, the more people I could use, the merrier my life will be.
"We want to play with Seon-Ho!" The girls shouted.
"You girls are being too much! We want to play with Seon-Ho too!" The boys shouted back.
I could only laugh awkwardly pretending to mediate. But deep inside, my happiness was blooming with a spring of flowers in their peak.
"How about we do a game we could all play with?'" I suggested.
They all looked against my suggestion. Many even grimaced at my words.
"Boys are stupid! No way!" One of the girls shouted.
"What did you say? You girls are the bothersome ones!" Shouted back by one of the boys.
But I didn't mind their open disagreement with my suggestion. I know I'll get what I want in the end.
"Why don't we play that new game called 'Give Me a Picture'?" I asked with an excited expression.
"Give Me a Picture?"
They were all confused at first. But pretty soon we all ended up playing the game so much our nannies had to force us to go home.
And with a little bit of time and effort, I managed to unite everyone under my guidance. Both the girls and boys tried to adjust with each other's pace when needed for us to play together.
