We stayed in silence.

The sweet, comforting kind. The kind of silence that you don't feel the need to escape from.

I could sense Avery drifting off; her breathing slower. The atmosphere feeling a little less tense.

I readjust my position, letting my legs stretch out in front of me. My stomach growls restlessly. I cradle it gently and look up, trying to remember the last time I had some actual food instead of grudgingly painting the images of warm, tasty, home-cooked meals in my head.

Avery suddenly jolts awake and pulls me closer. Her breath quietens - her cold hand clings onto my arm painfully, yet I ignore that. What I was more worried about was the agitated undertone.

"Don't say a word unless spoken too? Okay?" She hisses coldly. I'm too nervous to argue, let alone find the long lost energy to do so.

I nod my head, keeping a hold of her arm. I refused to let go.

Why am I trusting her? Even I'm unsure about that answer myself. I can't seem to think straight at this moment so whether she is the threat or not, I can't allow myself to make any sort of harsh judgements. Despite the anomalous circumstances, this new acquaintance may be my one way ticket out of here.
