There it was. That feeling he loved so dearly, the burning in his lungs and limbs as he pushed himself harder than before. Every fiber of his being ached from running, and adrenaline shot like bullets through his veins; it brought with it the promise that he could keep running until he was ready. The sound of the leaves crunching under his feet as he wove through the trees felt distant, overpowered by the pounding of his heart.
