Did you know that venting is a good way of letting things out and holding things deep inside will cause anxiety and stress?
My name is Jackson Hamick and my teen daughter is the age of seventeen. She has graduated high school early due to bullying that began at her high school. She was fifteen at the time and we were unaware of the situation. The other female who did the bullying use to be friends with my daughter and came over the house for sleepovers and studying dates. Her mother and I gained suspicion on their friendship when we asked her one day during dinner, what happened to your friend Oddie, and the reply we were given, "she's busy". Things were this way for an entire year. We never saw her friend again unless it was at school.
One day, she came home and her eye were blackened badly and her mother almost had a heart attack over it. I mean her eyes was dark all around and her high cheek bone was so swollen, she barely could see out of it. Again, she refused to tell us anything and at the time we already knew something was wrong. Her behavior the entire year was different and I always blamed it on her going through adolescent years.
After phone call from the school we learned she and her ex-bestfriend were both suspended from school from fighting and that made her mother go over to the girl's house to confront them about her daughter's well-being.
So the story we received is that my daughter stood up to the girl and the girl ended up pushing her and that made them both go into a full fight and it turned out this fight was also recorded by several people and posted on Facebook. We reported the content related and contacted Facebook in this.
It was a terrible event and what my wife and I learned about this situation is that teenagers go through a lot of challenging relationships in school and we have to talk to our children. Even if they brush you off, get involved! Do not force it on them in a aggressive way because that will make them withdraw, but bring it up to them in a calm way.
What is your story?
