Jaydn, at five years old, knew more about the world than most adults.
Werewolves mature quickly; at five, while still a child to a human, she had the mind of a teenager. Of course, that wasn't going to change for a very long time, because she was stuck in mental adolesence until her body caught up.
Jaydn had been born a wolf and never knew her human or proper 'lycan' form. All werewolf mothers were completely wolf when they gave birth and for most of their pregnancies, and Jaydn's mother was no different in this.
She never knew her mother. Naturally, the pup had flashes of memories; a piece of red fur, warmth and the smell of milk; a sense of security in the blackness of life. But even though her mother was gone, Jaydn did not miss her.
The young wolf's father, Kade, was the alpha of the werewolf pack then, and was raising her to take his place.
"Papa?" Jaydn murmured, speaking with her posture, her ears, her tail. Kade answered in the same manner, keeping to his wolf form so that his daughter didn't have to try to change yet.
"Daughter?" his response was. He soon was informed that her intention was to try to shift.
Shifting is a very painful process, but the later on you try it, the less it hurts. For Five-year-old Jaydn to attempt it, however, would be better than an older Jaydn attempting it, because her bones were more flexible.
And so she did. It took a while, but Jaydn shifted beautifully, into a small girl with black hair and brown eyes, even though her wolf-eyes were gold.
And so the days passed; Jaydn began to attend school. She learned to hunt with the pack, to be their leader.
