Back at camp, Naomi and Gary were laying together next to the fire, staring up at the stars as they pointed out the stars they saw to each other.
"There's Arceus," Gary murmured, gesturing to the Arceus constellation. "Next to it are the three stars of creation, representing the Creation Trio."
"How do you know so many?" Naomi asked, rolling her head over to look at Gary. He had been naming a bunch of constellations that she heard but wasn't familiar with.
"I'm a research assistant," Gary smiled. "My grandpa went through a phase where he believed the stars affected relationships with Pokémon."
"Really?" Naomi asked, giggling.
"Yeah, I think he found a few things, but gave up after they lead him nowhere."
"Oh well. He must've had fun though."
"Yeah he did. He still does. I think his mind is going a million miles a minute figuring out connections and such, then there's that explosion he's dealing with too, from back at Ash and Serena's wedding."
"Have you told him what we found out?" Naomi asked. Gary nodded, moving his hands so they were crossed behind his head as he continued to look up at the sky.
"He said he'd look into it. I hope he finds something that we might be missing, so Ash and I can stop competing in this stupid tournament."
"He will," Naomi glanced to where Ash was talking to Steele with Serena. "I wonder what they're talking about."
"I'm sure they'll update us later," Gary replied, rolling onto his side, resting his head on his hand. Naomi smiled at him and scooted closer.
"Nights like these are my favorite," Naomi said with a smile.
"What do you mean?" Gary asked.
"Just laying here, talking with you and staring up at the stars. I love the familiarity of it, it reminds me of how it was after we got together before all this craziness."
"I like it too. I feel like I can forget where we are and what's going on in the world, and why we're even in this stupid region, and we can just be Gary and Naomi, two people in love."
"Gary Oak, you've learned how to share feelings!" Naomi teased, laughing softly.
"Keep it down, I don't want people to know," Gary winked at her with a grin. Naomi rolled her eyes, but tilted her head up for a kiss.
"Hey," A few minutes later, Steele had returned to camp with Ash and Serena in tow. "We need to set up the tents, it's going to rain tonight."
"There's not a single cloud," Gary replied, raising an eyebrow.
"I know, but I feel it. Steele replied.
"Steele's right. I'm looking at a radar right now, there's a massive storm of rain heading our way." Clemont said, glancing up from his guidebook.
"Why don't we look for a cave instead?" Ash asked. "That way we can all be together, and it won't be as wet." Serena started tapping on her own guidebook.
"I found a cave just up ahead that goes into the side of a cliff. It's not far." The gang nodded and packed their things up, following Serena to the cave.
Once they arrived, Clemont started building a ring of stones so they could start a fire. Ash and Gary sprinted out into the huge gusts of wind that started up not long after they got to the cave.
"That crazy old man was right Ashy-boy!" Gary yelled over the roar of the wind.
"He's like in his forties Gare-bear!" Ash screamed back, rolling his eyes.
