It's like this, the world has well, become an endless pit of Zombie's. Kind of cool if you ask me. Yet I have a strange... obsession with the dead. I know it sounds weird but I do, trust me, I'm not yanking your chain or anything. I just connect with them. It could also be due to the fact that I'm a rare type of human in society. I'm gifted, not necessarily by tactics or fighting that much but by an ability. I'm a paranormal, it must sound weird but it's true. Now, I can't make anything really fly out of my hands or anything, but I can connect with the dead because.... Here it goes..... I'm a necromancer. There it's out. If you think about it, my gift does come in handy. I keep my group safe and the zombie's at a distance. However, my gift comes with a price, I can sense the things that the zombie's feel or are thinking. It's nothing but a disease that they have, just incurable. No one knows how this whole thing got started, it just happened. My groups job is to stay alive, mine is to keep them alive.
For now.

"Winter! Are you tuned in?"
Of course I am. I'm always tuned into the Zombie 1o1 radio station as I call it.
"Yes, always am?"
"I was just checking, you never know you could miss something one day, then we'll all be dead."
I swear Kaydence if you don't shut your mouth, I might get a zombie to chew it off.
"I'm just picking a bone with you Winter, it's a guy thing."
"I noticed."
I skim the woods around me, watching for Kane and Thimble. I know its a weird name for someone to have, Thimble, but she's cool. Kane's cool as well, I kind of have to say that considering we're a thing. He's great to be honest. He and Thimble ventured out a while ago to collect fire wood. Meanwhile I'm stuck at camp with 'Mr. Short-end-of-the-stick'. It's his unknown nickname, I gave it to him because well, why not, he's also extremely annoying at times. Kaydence is like a five year old stuck in a 16 year old's body. He's just so... ugh. I always seem to be stuck with him.
Why me?
"It's been a while." I say over my shoulder to Kaydence.
"I know. Kane will be fine. Don't freak out Winter."
I remain straight faced, "Not freaking."
"Ahu... The girl of few words speaks again. Care to e-la-bore-rate?"
"No."
The sharp SNAP of sticks makes me bolt up and pull my pistol out. Zombie? No not a Zombie, something else, my signal's didn't go up.
"Just us Winter, you can pit down the gun."
I lower my gun as Kane speaks, emerging from the woods with Thimble. Good they're alive. They place the fire wood down on the charcoal-ed grass. Even the grass is dead, go figure. Kane plants a hand on my shoulder and smiles at me. I look up at him, my eyes and everything about me is fixed and determined.
"Are you okay? You seem on edge."
"ya, i'm fine."
"Alright then, Loosen up a little bit would you. You shouldn't tense up so much, after all, you shouldn't be worried about a thing, the walkers stay away from you for the most part."
"I know."
Kane smiles at me once more," come here my little Zombie hunter." Kane outstretches his arms, I collapse into his strong body. A feeling of peace encases me as I breath in his familiar sent of pine trees and sawdust. Not looking up at him I ask, "Why Zombie hunter?"
"Well, would you rather Zombie Alpaca?"
"I guess not." I smile, it's quite funny, Zombie Alpacas. It's a real thing. Kane and I have seen these so called Zombie Alpacas.
"You know, Winter, I got that from the farm."
"I know, that's how we found out about this whole thing."
Kane lived out in the country area. It took news longer to reach them and so, while the city people and whatnot already knew about the zombie thing we didn't. That is until we went out to the barn(Kane raised Alpacas), and low and behold! We were greeted by three less cuddly and cute Alpacas in the barn. It's kind of an inside joke now. Needless to say we quickly closed the barn and locked it, so, chances are that, the Zombie Alpacas are lost and roaming the country side for brains or something. Who knows! That was two years ago, going on three. We've been lucky to survive this long. It's mainly because of me i guess, due to the fact that i can sense the Zombie's when they are near, I act as an early warning system for them. It helps keep us safe, that's all that matters.
"we should probably get some sleep soon. I'd like for us to get an early start tomorrow." Kane looks into my eyes, His once short light brown hair has grown out and is covering his brown eyes. He's so adorable when he commands our tiny flock. I nod to him.
"We should get a fire started"
"Your right, Zombie hunter, we should."
I just smile more at his little comment about me being a Zombie hunter, i don't hunt them per say, I am just constantly aware of them. It pains me to much to actually harm or kill them, if it was a life or death situation, then maybe, just maybe, I would be able to kill it. It's just that, when I or anyone near me kills a zombie, I feel it's pain. the silent screams, the panic, hatred, anything they feel in that one moment, crushing me like a ton of bricks falling from a two story building. I jump as a hand touches my shoulder.
"Hey. you sure your fine Winter, you look distracted."
"Fine Kane, my mind is just... elsewhere. It's fine."
"Okay, if you feel that something is wrong, let me know alright." He raises his eyebrows up at me. I nod in response.
"Thimble, Kaydence, help get the fire started, we need to see about getting a good sleep tonight we are off early. I'll take watch tonight." Kane directs the two to get to work. I watch as they get things in order. The zombie's are close, I can feel it.
"The fire's done. Canned corn Winter?" Thimble hands the canned corn over to me.
"No thanks, i'm good."
"Fine more for me" she shoves more food in her mouth. My eyes resume position on the tree line around us. Kane hands me a pillow and covers me with one of the blankets we have."Go to sleep, you need it." he hugs me, I smile and watch more. next thing I know my head has hit the pillow and i'm overcome with sleep, then, I'm out like rock.
No 'Zombie hunting' for me tonight.
* So i debated on writing a new book, but i'm almost done with 'Shadower' so whatever. I debated with myself for a good 5 hrs. It doesn't help that i have no idea if i want to add one more ch. to 'Shadower or just start book two. And 'For You, a Thousand Times Over' i just got stuck. New book it is then 4 me and my readers. i think this one evens things out though, i now have a fast, Slow and medium paced book to write. so, it works. Enjoy this one, it will be much more organized than Shadower, that one's great but Skye has a lot to do... it can get kind of insane, i don't want anyone to get whiplash from reading my stories, Don't worry though, book 2 will be much more organized. Follow, comment and whatnot on my stories! Any ideas are helpful as well. Update in a few days hopefully. ~Linda*
