The Undead

Chapter 1

It was dark, not so dark that they wouldn't be able to see anything but just dark enough to slightly obstruct the groups vision. They were trapped, surrounded on all sides of the room, by these things that weren't human, not anymore at least. They checked for a way out, a way to escape before it was to late. They looked around and the only way out was through a window that was on the fifth story, it was not their best option but the only other option they had left was to fight. There were 8 people in group all of them had been friends for a while. There was Jasper, Allen, Benjamin, Donna, Lucas, James, Rebecca, and Aiden. They were a group of friends from the school they went to but that life of theirs was over, in fact their entire life itself might be over soon. They were being chased by people who had been infected with a virus that made them kill and eat others, normally humans that were still breathing became their main chose of a meal. No one knew how this disease started or how it exactly spread, but they did know when someone died they turned into one of those things. These monsters were now banging on the door of a conference room the group trapped themselves in, thankfully the undead were not smart enough to work the doorknob.
Aiden took his hammer and started banging on the window, trying to break the glass and escape. Donna saw this and tried to stop him.
"Aiden what are you doing, the noise will only attract more of them!" she cried
"We have to get out here we can't just sit here and hope they don't find a way in here" he replied.
"He's right you know" Allen joined in "its the best chance we have, better than facing those things"
"But this is the fifth story, we'd die as soon as we hit the ground" said Donna
"Then we wont hit the ground" Jasper chimed in "We will examine the area and then see what we could use to climb to the bottom and then go from there"
"That will work" Aiden said as he hit the window with his hammer one last time, causing the glass to shatter. Jasper then took off his jacket and placed it on the window seal to stop people from getting injuries from any left over glass. He then jumped up on the window seal and looked around the area for any safe way down. There was a pipe next to the window, that went all the way down into the ground, which was pretty convenient for the situation. Jasper checked the stability of the pipe, then climbed from the window onto it. He held onto the sides of the pipe to hold himself up, then put his feet on the wall so that he could slide down while holding onto the pipe. Once he got far down enough he jumped onto the top of a nearby semi. Then he checked the surrounding area for any of the dead that could be lurking around.
Once he was sure the area was clear he called the others to come down. Allen came down next, slowly climbing down the pipe onto the semi, next was Aiden, Then Lucas, Benjamin, James and Rebecca. the only one left was Donna, who was too scared to get close to the window.
"Donna, you need to hurry before its too late" James called out to her
"I can't climb down" Donna called back.
"You can Donna, you need to quickly" Lucas joined in
"I mean I can't, I can't handle heights, that is why I didn't want to go out of the window in the first place.
"Well we don't really have any other choice, its our safest way down, just take it slow and be careful." Lucas wanted to make sure she got down safely. She slowly walked to the window, and climbed onto the window seal. She then, after a few minuets passed, took deep breath and climbed onto the pipe. She tried to hold on and climb down like the other did, but she was in to much of a hurry that she slipped and almost fell to the ground. She was barely holding onto the sides of the pipe, ready to fall any any second. The dead started to hear the commotion and made their way to the area. Lucas and Aiden made their way over to Donna and held their hands out to catch her. Once she slipped the fell onto the edge of the semi and held onto Lucas's hand as he tried to pull her up, but the dead had her legs and tried to pull her down with them. She tried kicking them away, but it didn't do much. She kept trying anyways while Lucas and Aiden fought to pull her up. After a minuet or two of this they were finally able to pull her up. The group saw several of the dead coming in and they quickly jumped down and ran in the other direction to find safety.
They saw a building with a fence surrounding it completely keeping the dead from getting in. There were cattle inside that the dead wanted to go to, causing them to cover the front of the fence and some of the sides, but the fences still held up despite all of their weight on it. The group knew this would be their best chance at surviving in all of this. They looked for a way inside of that area, and their best shot was through a window of the building beside of it. That was it, if they could just make it safely through that building and to one of those windows they would be okay. They all made their way to the doors of the building and quickly opened them, ran inside and then shut them and blocked them off as quietly as possible. Then had a look around getting ready for anything to attack them as they make their way through each room.
