Yoo Chu-yu sighed deeply, watching her breath fog in the frigid winter air. She adjusted the scarf around her neck, her fingers numb from the cold as she shut off her phone, having just read the latest message from her best friend, Sung Jin Ah.
"A blind date, huh..." she mumbled, her words disappearing into the icy breeze.
Attending the date was the last thing she wanted to do. Her workload was overwhelming, her responsibilities vast, and her personal life always seemed to take a backseat. But she also knew Jin Ah wouldn't take another rejection lightly. She could already picture her best friend sulking for days.
"See you tomorrow!" The guard's cheerful voice broke her thoughts as she nodded absently, realizing she'd been standing outside the Hunter Association building for longer than she'd noticed.
"Chief! See you tomorrow!" another colleague called out, walking past her.
Chief Operating Officer Yoo Chu-yu. That was her title now. Five years had passed since she'd been reinstated to her position after the catastrophic war that claimed 25% of Korea's population. She was one of the lucky few who had survived—the B-rank Hunter who played a key role in those desperate times. Now, she was a hero in name, but her day-to-day life felt far removed from that glory.
She liked her life, in a way. But the downside was that no one at her workplace dared to befriend her. To most, she was the outsider—a Hunter placed in a coveted position at the Hunter Association. Her peers, especially those vying for her role, viewed her as a usurper, someone who had "stolen" the position through sheer strength rather than merit. The gap between them was more than professional—it was personal.
And so, despite her rank and title, she was alone.
Not by choice, but out of necessity. Her brother had begged her to take on the role, and for his sake, she had complied. But the weight of the job, and the isolation it brought, was a constant burden.
Looking up at the darkening sky, she let out another sigh, her resolve softening. Maybe Jin Ah was right—maybe a distraction, just for one night, wouldn't hurt.
A sleek black limo pulled up in front of her, and a man dressed in black stepped out, opening the door. Without hesitation, Chu-yu climbed inside, giving her driver quick instructions to take her home.
"A little distraction," she thought to herself as the car pulled away. "Just this once."

"Chu-yu! Over here!" Jin Ah's excited voice cut through the cafe's gentle buzz, waving her arm energetically to get her friend's attention.
