Meanwhile, in a small cafeteria situated in one of the quieter roads, Rose's going about her shift, serving coffees and muffins to patrons that sometimes make her go crazy.
She's actually quite fond of the job and the people she has met throughout the years there, even if she will never admit that out loud. It's her routine, it's what gets her out of the house in days where she would rather stay curled up in her bed and just forget about the world.
It's something.
But it's not enough. And she's well aware of it.
That's why she always tries to find another place to work at, but it's not as easy as it seems, even if she lives in one of the biggest and busies cities in her Country.
And it's weird, because she hears a lot of stories about people finding jobs like it's nothing, like they're handed to them without even looking.
That, sometimes, really brings her down, makes her sad and kinda give her a kick in the ass, but she tries to stay positive and keep her head up. But it's a struggle more often than not.
Especially in days like this one, where her boss shouts at everyone for no actual reason and tries to put the blame on each employee for things that he does.
It's frustrating and she'd rather stand on the other side of the counter, where his words would just be... words. Where he wouldn't mean anything.
But she needs to close her eyes for a few seconds and just breathe. And she does.
She shrugs it off and moves on to the old lady that's walking towards the till with a weak, still soft and somehow warm smile.
She waits a moment, just to give her some time to look at the board behind her, and then "Hello, ma'am. What can I get for you, today?" she asks, swiping her employee card over the register's screen, to start a new order up. She also puts on a smile and makes eye contact with the lady, while she hums to herself, scanning the variety of coffees written in front of her."Hello, dear" she greets, taking out her wallet from her bag. "Can I please have a small latte?" she queries, moving her gaze on the cake's display. "Oh, that looks yummy" she adds, pointing towards a round pink and yellow tart. "Does that have strawberry inside?"
"And lemon" Rose nods, tapping the screen to process her order. "Would you like one?"
The lady smiles, eyes crinkling a little. "Yes, dear, that would be lovely" she says, placing a couple of bills on the counter. "Thank you" she quickly adds.
Rose loves this kind of customers, they actually make her day and make her feel a little better. There's not really a reason for it, but they somehow make the struggle worth it.
Even if she still needs to find a way to make more money.
