I was awoken from my deep sleep in quite an unexpected way. I heard a crash pounding its way through my closed door. I pried my eyes open and peered in the direction of the noise.

"Mom! Are you alright!" I called out but received no response. I groaned an hopped from my bed to jog downstairs. I crept through the silent house, fearing an intruder. As I entered the kitchen my mother hopped in front of me out of nowhere.

"SURPRISE, HAPPY BIRTHDAY AUDREY!" She shouted.

Unfortunately for my mother she startled me to the point that I slapped her.

"Oh my god I'm so sorry mom!"

"It's fine honey." She sighed while holding her face.

"Anyway, Happy 18th birthday honey." She smiled regardless of the angry red splotch on her cheek, for which I felt incredibly guilty.

"Thanks mom." I smiled back.

"So you got any special plans tonight?" She asked quizzically.

"Any wild parties?"

I laughed. "If you consider Paris, Ashton and I, watching a movie a 'wild party' then yes." I said using finger quotes.

"Wait the Irwin's are coming over?! Oh how I love them." My mother gushed.

Paris and Ashton Irwin. Paris and Ash (as I prefer to refer to him as) are like my family. I met Paris awhile ago when she was substituting for my 7th grade class. She was 20 when she substituted for us and I was only 13, but we instantly clicked, and she just stuck around. Ashton is Paris' husband. He's a super sweet guy, with this garage band called '5 Seconds Of Summer."

Ashton is really nice and fun to be around just like Paris. So my mom loves him as well.

"Yeah mom they are."

"Well that's nice sweetie. You better get ready for school. Oh and by the way a new family moved in next door and we're having dinner with them tonight before Katie and Ashton come over."

"Okay cool." I said leaving to head upstairs. I wonder if that family has a cute boy I thought. I shook away the thought. Mother does not want me to get involved with boys yet.

"Hey by the way, what was that noise?" I asked, pausing on my way up the stairs.

"I may or may not have tripped over and broke the fan."

"Nice mom."
