______________
It was a normal Friday evening for Aryan, he was at his friend's bar whom he has known for the past five and half years he has studied on the campus of medical school . Joe,the said friend is a well built German who looks rough and mighty at first glance and he is rough when the time requires, other times he is a gentle giant . Running a bar in a student populated locality is hard if you are not. Aryan is seated at his regular place at the counter while Joe was getting prepared for the night. It was only five something in the evening and the bar doesn't open till six. People think the best think about having Joe as your friend is the free drinks on party nights but the best thing is having a private Bar time with your own personal bartender and Aryan made the most of it every weekend.
Joe was staring at Aryan who seemed to have been lost again in thought. "Ari, stop punching holes in my shelves" he said with a slight tease in his voice jolting Aryan back to reality.
"huh? What? "
"You were lost again.. what is wrong with you today???"
"well firstly I don't have the company of my partner in crime to get back at our neighbors and secondly my exams are around the corner and I don't know what I am gonna do about them.. anyways enough about me how's things with you?"
Before Joe to could answer the bell at the door tinkled indicating someones entry . Joe looked up from the glass he was cleaning at who ever that entered and Aryan took a peek at him over his shoulder to see it was a man walking towards them.
Joe said " I am sorry Mr, but the bar is still closed." as Aryan got back to his drink without much thought.
"How come its open for him and not others?" he replied in a gentle voice as he walked towards the counter. For a moment Aryan was tempted to look into his mind to know how he meant it But he withheld himself.
he was however irked by the new comer "It's because I own half the place that;s why." He answered while still facing Joe, who gave him an amused look. Aryan knew that he would not be offended nor will he correct him in front of whoever that has crashed their conversation.
The new comer didn't pause in his stride and eventually reached the counter and occupied the stool next to Aryan. Joe looked at Aryan whose face was curtained by this long blond hair from the stranger. As the stranger sat down Aryan got the smell of a very rich perfume that reminded him of a green meadow with lavenders. That was a smell he could get used to, fresh lavenders with a mix of soft earth.
Joe looked the new occupant at the counter and exhaled silently before asking "Are you going to order or just sit there and stare at my counter?"
Aryan thought Joe was a little too Joe for someone who he just met, But didn't give it any thought and took a swing from his abnormally long glass of Joe's special drink.
"oh yeah.. sorry... I will have whatever he's having... it looks interesting."
Aryan couldn't control himself and gave a small laugh and Joe joined soon. The new comer was intrigued and wanted to ask what was funny but thought otherwise. Joe got on to working the drink and Aryan was back to staring at the shelves. Joe said "Don't worry Ari you will do great. Besides Its not like you need to top this time too, you will be done with this semester and Rose already said she is taking you into the program so don't stress yourself." as he was making new drink.
"yeah? Yeah! She did but I should still do my best... what's up with you? What plans for the summer?"
"Same old same old.. Country side and fishing."
Aryan gave a knowing smile at that. On more than one occasion he had accompanied Joe on those visits. The new comer was silently listening to the conversation all the while and at the end of it he turned slightly to face Aryan and said "Hi, I am Eric and you?" extending a hand.
Aryan didn't really like having unexpected company during his private time. But it was not in his nature to be unnecessarily rude to anyone. He turned to finally face the intruder. He was greeted by the most beautiful eyes he had ever seen, They were the brilliant green that nature holds on bright sunny day after the monsoon showers. His mind for the first time in its entire existence has gone blank, nothing came to his mind and his mouth was halfway open. He looked liked a small boy staring at a candy store. Nevertheless he recovered and answered without a stutter in the sentence "I am Aryan."
"So you are still a student I see..."
" I am sorry but you don't... its not something you can see." Something has compelled Aryan to say that. Even Joe was amused. It was not in Aryans character to speak like that to anyone let alone a stranger. Even though the words seemed harsh Aryan's voice didn't hold the edge to make them sound rude or offensive. Eric got more fascinated and his interest towards the black eyes and blonde dyed man.nevertheless he kept quiet.Joe was done with the drink and set it infront of Eric and turned to Aryan "seconds Ari?"
"Nah!! I am gonna have to pass.. I will come back for it tomorrow though."
"Cool buddy let me know if you need anything... "
"sure Joe.. byee c ya kal"(kal in Hindi means Tomorrow)
"ohh Ari turn the sign at the door to open on your way out will you?"
"yup.."
With that Aryan exited the bar and hopped on his bike and rode away to his apartment. On his way he expanded his conscious and simple let it wander out in the almost empty streets and the parks nearby.. Listening to the chatter of the small animals and the frenzy ramble of kids thoughts and more structured yet equally if not more boring thoughts of adults at the park. By the time he reached home his mind was open and fresh having taken in the clam of life that isn't his own.
