1. The Split

CHAPTER 1

2009

"So... This is when we say goodbye?" Jaejoong bit his bottom lip hard as he clenched his fists tight.

Lightning flashed and there was thunders booming from time to time. The rain seemed to pour heavily, reflecting the atmosphere in the studio.

Unable to meet Yunho's teary eyes, Jaejoong stared at the cold, hard ground. "You are just gonna ... Let me go?" Jaejoong asked again when Yunho didn't respond.

Jaejoong glanced around. This dance studio. All his sweat, tears, blood. The 5 of them... Everything was happening too quickly. Jaejoong stared at the clouds-printed blinds.

"Yun...Jae..." He sighed. With that, he looked at yunho intently. "That's it? That's the end?"

A tear trickled down jaejoong's cheeks and he immediately wiped it away with the back of his hand.

"I..." Yunho finally spoke up after a long silence. "I..." His voice cracked as he closed his eyes for a moment. Taking a deep breath, he managed a whisper. "Go. Just go..."

Jaejoong's eyes widened. Unable to believe what he has just heard, jaejoong raised an eyebrow, confused.

"GO. I SAID GO. DIDN'T YOU HEAR ME? YES! THAT'S THE END. SO GO!" Yunho shouted as he squinted his eyes hard at Jaejoong. Jaejoong opened his mouth-shocked, angry, hurt.

Before stomping out of the dance studio in tears, he met yunho's dark brown eyes. Between sobs, he managed to cry out "Yes... I'm leaving. Goodbye."

After jaejoong left, yunho felt the loneliness, hurt, anger creeping over him all at once.

"ARGHHHHHHHHHH" he shouted in sadness before falling onto the cold, hard floor. Tears fell from his eyes as he sobbed uncontrollably.

"Jaejoong ah... Jae... Some of us have to stay... Some of us can leave... Jaejoong... Be free... You can finally be free..."

CHAPTER 2

2011

Jaejoong looked out of the window. The pitter-patter of the rain and a cool breeze greeted him. "It has been awhile since we last talked..." Jaejoong shooked his head silently. His heart started to ache as he recalled that rainy night in the dance studio. Hahaha... Jaejoong laughed sarcastically. "If you told me to stay... If you told me you'll miss me... I would have stayed." Jaejoong shrugged his shoulders, "oh well..."

As much as he tried to forget the past, as much as he tried to move on, jaejoong could still hear yunho's voice. Loud and clear. "GO... Just GO..."

"~pick up the phone! Pick-ka-ka-ka-up the phone-oh-oh~"

Jaejoong's phone rang, disrupting his thoughts.

"Hey, it's me." The deep husky voice of yoochun greeted him. "Manager Hyung is gathering us for a meeting at 8am tomorrow. Meeting will be held at SM meeting room C2..."

Jaejoong stared into space, still holding the phone to his ear.

"Hyung?" Yoochun called out when Jaejoong didn't respond. "Hyung???" Yoochun called out again, this time slightly louder. After calling Jaejoong numerous times but to no avail, Yoochun shouted "HYUNGGGGGGGG?!"

Shocked by yoochun's loud booming voice, Jaejoong scolded "AISH! Yes I know! Tomorrow. 8AM at..."

"HYUNG? I called you a millionkazillion times. Are you alright?" Yoochun cut Jaejoong off.

"Nah.. Err.. Yeah.." Jaejoong stammered. "I was just wondering... Will all 5 of us be there?"

"I'm not sure... Well, we will see tomorrow! I'm going out for a drink! See ya tomorrow then!"

Yoochun then ended the call.

"This kid... He seems to have no worries or problems at all..." Jaejoong pouted. "Maybe I'm over-thinking... Aish."

Jaejoong sat there in silence for a moment before getting up to get ready for bed. He glanced at the clock perched neatly above his shelf. "Wow... It's 3am already."

[THE NEXT DAY]

The atmosphere in the meeting room was tensed. Jaejoong, Yoochun and Junsu sat in a row. They glanced over at one another from time to time. The clock ticked and they fidgeted. Jaejoong frowned. Yoochun drummed his fingers on the table. Junsu tried cracking up jokes to brighten up the atmosphere but to no avail.

"YAH! Guys... What's with the dark clouds above your heads?" Junsu asked cutely, crossing his arms and puffed up his cheeks.

Jaejoong forced a laugh while yoochun rolled his eyes. "Junsu. How old are you? Stop acting cute." However, yoochun fell for Junsu's cuteness in the end and they all burst out laughing in unison.

At that moment, the door opened and Yunho and Changmin entered with Mr Lee strutting behind them. The three who were laughing previously immediately stood up and bowed politely.

Jaejoong met Yunho's eyes. The 2 of them stared intently at each other for a moment.

"OKAY. First things first. Lets make this fast then your can sign to agree. We will let various websites know the decision. And off your go." Mr lee cleared his throat. "Separate ways." He added.

The 5 of them gulped. Jaejoong tried to look at yunho once more however yunho's eyes were downcast on the carpeted floor. His eyes were getting redder and he sniffed, pursing his lips together.

"It seems like yunho already knows the decision." Jaejoong frowned. "What's wrong with him?"

"TWO SEPARATE GROUPS. The ones going, shall go." Mr lee looked at Jaejoong, Yoochun, and finally at junsu. "The ones staying, shall stay." He continued, smiling at Yunho and changmin. Yunho shifted his glance uncomfortably at Jaejoong. Meeting jaejoong's pair of disappointed eyes, yunho felt his heart beating faster and faster and drops of perspiration rolled down the sides of his face.

Everything happened so quickly. Before they could discuss further, before they could negotiate further, before they even had the time to just voice their opinions, all the paper work was done. In the blink of an eye, mr Lee and the various staff members and lawyers sealed the paper work and informed the few websites about the final decision made. TVXQ! And JYJ. That's all.

The 5 of them then shuffled out with their heads bowed low.

As soon as they stepped out of the company, they were surrounded by hoards of fans.

"OPPPPPA!!!" A fan screamed right into Jaejoong's ear. Fans pushed and screamed. Someone pulled yunho's shirt violently, another smacked yoochun in the face. However, all 5 members were deep in thoughts, unable to "entertain" the fans.
