The morning dawned in the transfiguration classroom as students started to file in, some of the braver first years, including Lily Evans sat at front while the more nervous looking first years sat further back. The marauders to be came in just before class started, attaining seats in the back row.
Professor McGonagall came in as the bell sounded to signal the start of. She shut the door behind her and stood at the front the room. "Welcome to your first class. Transfiguration is some of the most complex and dangerous magic you will learn at Hogwarts, anyone messing around in my class will leave and not come back. You have been warned."
Sirius snorted while Remus rolled his eyes. "And yet you let us back every time."
Minerva sighed. "You had a lot of talent. It would be a shame to let it go to waste."
McGonagall changed her desk into a pig and back before getting them to copy down some complicated looking notes from the board. James finished writing his notes and ripped off the bottom of his parchment writing on it and passing it to Sirius, Peter being the only one out of the group still writing the last parts:
How long do you reckon it will take to get kicked out of class?-JP
Dunno. We're better off starting small, seeing what gets us a detention first. Test the limits-SB
Is that challenge?-JP
If you want it to be. Show the others-SB
I'm not getting detention on the first day just to 'test the limits'-RL
"I wouldn't either." Someone muttered.
I'd rather just watch the show for now-JW
I'm with Juliet-PP
Her first name's Minerva isn't it?-SB
Yeah. She went to school with my parents-JP
"You did?" Some Gryffindor asked in surprise and Minerva nodded.
Why? What are you planning?-JW
Watch and see-SB
The teachers sighed when they saw the notes they had been passing. Of course they would decide to 'test the limits' in their very first class.
A lot of the students, Weasley twins not included, seemed to think they were crazy for wanting to get detention and to antagonise McGonagall of all people.
Sirius raised his hand, clearing his throat. "Professor, I was wondering, when will we be learning about human transfiguration?"
"You will be able to attempt it in your sixth year."
"Thanks Minnie!" He said all too cheerfully. A good portion of the class had stopped working was gaping at Sirius while Juliet and James were trying to cover up their snickering.
A couple of students along with some of the adults who had been taught by Minerva choked on their breath. They couldn't imagine saying something like that to McGonagall's face.
Sirius looked proud of himself.
She looked up, raising an eyebrow. "What was that Mr. Black."
"Minnie. I mean, McGonagall's a bit long so Minerva, Minnie. Get it?"
"Five points from Gryffindor for your cheek."
Sirius rested a hand over his heart. "From your own house, Minnie? The betrayal!"
