Upon the roof sat Xiao, pensive and lost in his own train of thought. The world below him felt irrelevant, and he felt emotions he had never felt before. He wanted to curl up and disappear, but couldn't explain why. Was it because Aether got hurt earlier that day and he felt that if he was a moment earlier he could've saved him? That's probably the conclusion that Xiao didn't want to accept as truth, although it was, in fact, the truth. Tears stung the corners of his eyes. This feeling was overwhelming; Xiao had never once felt sad for the losses of those around him, had never once felt sad after death arose, but now that Aether was hurt in some way? He felt broken. He felt guilty. And so he sat upon the roof, gazing out at the sky, knees hugged up tight to his chest, as tears threatened escape.
Footsteps were heard softly yet clumsily behind him, yet he decided to pay no attention to it. The footsteps stopped beside him and someone was not seated next him, after a couple grunts from the action of sitting down. He glanced over at the person, just to see who it was. Beautiful golden eyes shone at him, and a smile he could not mistake for anyone else's smiled at him. "Aether?" Xiao asked, lifting his head up to properly look at him. It was, in fact, the man in question, smiling happily at him. "Hi, Xiao" he giggled out, giggling soon fading, and his smile replaced with concern. "Have you been...crying?" He asked quietly, lifting an arm up to push away a fallen tear, Xiao retracting slightly before accepting what Aether was doing and easing into it. It was then that he noticed the cast on his arm. "Your..." he tried to speak, his voice trailing off. "Arm? Yeah, fight was rough" the blonde joked, but Xiao felt guilty once more. "I could've helped I had come sooner after hearing your calls..." he returned to his tight position, tears forming in his eyes once more as he tried to keep it together. "Xiao...It's not your fault" Aether tried to explain, but it wasn't enough for Xiao.

"It is my fault. You called out for me but instead of listening I just ignored it and kept on with my day assuming it wasn't urgent. Aether, you wouldn't be hurt if it wasn't for my neglect to my promise to you." He said, Tears falling rapidly down his pale cheeks, turning himself fully towards Aether, catching him off guard. Xiao hung his head and cried, placing a hand on Aethers not-bad arms shoulder. "It's just a broken arm, you rescued me from having even worse damage done, you do realise?" Aether spokesman softly with a smile, lifting Xiaos head up with his hand. Xiao sniffled slightly before he spoke. "Really?" He said, still crying. Aether nodded and held out his arm for a hug, Xiao hesitantly accepting, laying his head on Aethers lap. "You weren't neglectful, and you don't have to be guilty. I usually only call you for less serious situations anyways so if I was in your position, I'd do the exact same thing. Hilichurl camps are never this difficult, but something must've taken control of that group anyways." Aether explained, Xiao nodding, still apologising anyways. "I'll accept the apology though it really isn't necessary" Aether smiled as he stroked Xiaos hair away from his face.

The pair sat atop the roof, gazing out at the sky, Aether in Xiaos company, and Xiao in Aethers. Xiao had grown tired, after not showing or even having emotions like that for years it was exhausting having it all at once. Slowly, his eyes began to flutter shut as the rhythmic hair strokes from Aethers soft hand caused him to grow sleepy. And the world below him felt irrelevant, and he felt emotions he had never felt before; and it never felt better.

The end.
