Herb's POV
Well, it's finally Valentine's day. Not too surprising. Time sure flies by when you're dating the pinnacle of a golden retriever boyfriend if I do say so myself. This is my first Valentine's day where I'm not single. Never thought it'd happen. I don't know how I feel. Kind of the same really. Maybe happier though.
Sparkling invited me out to a Valentine's day party. He said it's a small party so that's good. It's at night too, which is cool I guess. He said the place was a surprise, so I'm most excited to see where it is. If it's at night it's probably a really pretty place.
It's also casual which is great. Very lucky that the last two parties I went to were casual. I have no formal attire. The closest thing is like a tie. Not like I have anything that goes with that tie anyway.
I also don't have work tomorrow which is great. It's like everything is finally going correctly. That just means something bad will happen another time. Eh, I'll think about that later.
The party starts in the evening so I have plenty of time to prepare. Which is good, just so I'm completely ready. I'm also starting a timer for when I should get ready, I need to clean my house.
The ringing from my phone reminds me to get ready. Definitely a good idea that I set that timer.
Another thing that went well. Something bad is bound to happen soon though I bet. Nothing can stay this good for this long. Meh, I won't worry about it. There's no point to worry about it.
I put on basically what I just wear daily I guess. It's all I have right now anyway. I finished getting ready and now I just wait for Sparkling.
I'm a bit nervous. Sure, it's a small party, not as many people as the singles party of course, but I'm still nervous. I don't want to make a bad impression since Sparkling knows the people attending. Hopefully they're chill. That's the main thing I can hope for. As well as that I'm not going to be so damn anxious.
Sparkling should be here soon anyway to pick me up. Which gives me a couple minutes to mentally prepare. Definitely a good idea to do that.
Soon Sparkling arrives and we head off. I did not mentally prepare at all for the party. So now I'm just really anxious to the point where I can't stop bouncing my leg. I should probably try to calm down a bit. Maybe the car ride will help me mentally prepare? I can't focus though. Hm. Welp, guess I'll die.
"You okay?" Sparkling asked. "Oh, um. Yeah. I'm okay. Just anxious I guess." I responded sheepishly. "How come?" "I guess I'm just worried about not making a good impression." I responded to the question. "I'm sure you'll do fine, there's no way you can really make a bad impression with them." Sparkling responded reassuringly. "Are you sure?" I asked. "Positive." Sparkling said with the same reassuring tone.
After some time we finally arrived at the party. Even with Sparkling's assurance, I was still quite nervous. Maybe less so though. The party was in a small clearing in the woods. Set up with foldable tables, some with drinks and some just for sitting at, and chairs, as well as some fairy lights that were hung up in the tree branches for some illumination. It was quite nice, mainly with the fairy lights.
I could see two guys sitting at one of the foldable tables. These must be some of Sparkling's friends. I feel nervous just seeing them. Not like that changes anything though. I've been nervous all night. Hopefully I will at least relax a little. Like Sparkling said, there's a rare chance that I'll fuck up.
We walk over to them, Sparkling holding my hand while leading the way. "Hey guys, we're here, sorry if we're late." Sparkling said once reaching the table. "It's alright you aren't late at all." the red haired guy. "That's a relief, oh yeah, you guys should probably exchange names." Sparkling added. "Hm yeah true." replied the mint haired one.
"Well, I'm Vampire, and that's Mint." Vampire said. Mint nodded his head. "And you are?" Mint asked. "I'm Herb." I responded sheepishly. "It's nice meeting you Herb." Mint added.
We talked for quite a while, and I've finally calmed down which is great. I'm quite pleased that the two parties I've gone to as of late have gone great. Probably won't be as lucky at the next party. Oh well, that's not important right now.
What's important right now is that it seems as if they're about to do something. So, I'm quite curious about what it could be. Then again they probably aren't doing anything. I'm probably just being paranoid. I am a little tipsy so that's probably contributing.
It was soon proven that I was not just paranoid. Now I am being invited to dance, and I am very confused.
"Huh?" I asked, sheepishly and very confused. "Would you like to dance?" Sparkling asked again sheepishly. "Oh! Um, sure? I don't really know how to dance though." I responded with the same tone. "That's okay, just follow my lead." Sparkling responded. I took his hand and stood up. Then we moved away from the tables and chairs as so they weren't in the way.
He put his hands on my waist as I put mine on his shoulders. I can already feel my face heat up. Well, this is new. Well for me, definitely not Sparkling.
After sometime I actually start getting the hang of doing this. I've been stumbling here and there but, at least I haven't stepped on Sparkling's feet yet. I lay my head on Sparkling's chest as we continue to dance, him putting one of his hands on the side of my head.
This is honestly one of the best moments of my life so far. I wonder if he feels the same way. Usually, I've just spent Valentine's day alone. I never thought this time I'd spend it dancing with my boyfriend. I honestly always thought Valentine's day would just be that one holiday I don't really care about but, today that changes. I guess I could say. He's my reason to enjoy Valentine's day.
