Pegs a big round lady with an even bigger smile, plump cheeks that wobble when she laughs, button brown eyes and a small grey bun plonked on the top of her head, decides to go town to collect some groceries.
“I’m off to get some shopping Pineapple, I shan’t be long.” She said as she closes the door.
Pineapple the kitten, whose name came from being found fast asleep in a pineapple box, at the very bottom of the garden, had other ideas, she was not going to stay in on her own, oh no, she wanted to go to town with Pegs and so she did.
She caught up with Pegs and gave a meow. “You coming too?” said Pegs as they both walked side by side down the lane towards the shops.
Just as they got to town, the heavens opened up and the rain came, pitter-patter, pitter-patter. There were puddles here, puddles there, puddles everywhere, right to the very end of the street.
Poor Pineapple, she does not enjoy the rain at all. As each paw lands on the wet pavement, she meows, gives it a little shake and looks up at Pegs as if to say what’s going on here then.
“Oh Pineapple, whatever can we do to stop them little paws from getting wet?” laughs Pegs.
“Ahh, I think I may have just the thing to solve the problem, come on Pineapple let’s go in the toy shop and see what the shopkeeper can do for us.” She said as she pushes open the door.
Tinkle, tinkle went the bell as they entered the shop. Pineapple looked around to see all sorts of toys, big teddies, little teddies, big toy cars, little toy cars, big dolls and little dolls. Pineapple likes the shop so much she forgot about her cold wet little paws.
“Hello Pegs what can I be doing for you on this cold wet blustery day?” Asks the shopkeeper.
“Well” said Pegs, “My poor little kitten Pineapple hates her paws getting wet, so I wondered if you had any tiny wellington boots that would fit her?”
“Do you know I have a great idea, I have some red wellington boots on two of my small teddies and I think they would be just the job for little paws.” He said, as he trotted to the back of the shop.
Back he came holding up two pairs of red wellington boots. “There we are, two pairs of wellington boots, which if you add them up makes a total of four wellingtons, should fit nicely I, think.”
Pineapple hearing this, jumps onto the shop counter and is very excited to see such pretty wellington boots. She lifted each paw up and the shopkeeper, pushed each one on gently.
Once they were all on Pegs and the shopkeeper chuckle to see the little black kitten with red wellingtons on her paws.
Pineapple was so proud of them, with her head held high she walks up and down the shop counter using it as a ‘Catwalk’ which just makes Pegs and the shopkeeper chuckle even more.
