Her first real memory took place when she was two. It was one of the rare times her father was in the village, back from one of his long travels as a merchant. Ashi and her brother were laying on their father's chest, his long pale purple hair spread around his head, resting in their mother's lap.

She smiled as she hovered over them. It was a moment she cherished greatly. While her mother was loving and kind, it was one of her rare bright smiles. One that lit up a room, one of the features that her father said drew him to her.

Ashi greatly loved her family and would do anything for them. Anything to keep this for herself. That's why she decided that she would become a shinobi to even rival the first Hokage.

Year 3, March

Early morning exercise was not one of her favorite pastimes, even if she was grateful for her mother's efforts in training Ashi and her brother. They stretched, they ran, they practiced kata, and they wrapped up with an hour-long meditation.

It was grueling work, but it always left her with a sense of growing satisfaction that she was growing one step closer to her goal.

"Ashi! Kishu! Come inside now. It's time for breakfast. I want you to remember to leave your shoes at the door this time," her mother's voice called, breaking her away from her daydreaming.

Kishu, Ashi's ever-annoying twin brother, pushed her over before she could get to her feet and began to race to the door. He called out to her, "I call dibs on your bacon!"

Seido, one of her mother's ninken tripped him as he ran passed causing him to face plant on the engawa. Ashi burst into tears rolling around on the ground in a burst of familiar obnoxious laughter, all too similar to her mother's.

The tan dog chortled along with her at the loud bang of the boy's misfortune.

"Now, now pup. That's not how you treat your sister. Come along."

As Ashi walked past her brother and Seido, she leaned over and gave the dog a big kiss on his nose and a hug of greater magnitude. He rumbled in contentment and nuzzled into the 3-year-old girl.

Kin and Jin laughed in the corner, already lined up and waiting for their pseudo-father to join them so they themselves could eat breakfast.
