The crowds of summer vacation was all that the young girl saw. School had ended and every student was ready to run into their parents cars, run back home, or run into the buses.
The girl's name was Emily, but she was more well known as Feather. Feather was a shorter than average brunette with hazel eyes. Her hair was always up in a bun, and when it was down it managed to go to her waist.
She was reading a horror novel, one that her dad had written and gave her the first copy of the book he was writing. The premise was a simple ghost story, clearly inspired by the stories that Feather and her brother Mark shared with their father and the ones that he had told them. A group of teens moved into a haunted house as roommates and soon enough bad things happened. She was 80% certain that one of the friends was possessed and that the first one to die would be the one who thought that eating the mystery clams was a good idea. It was not a good idea and they were now sick and forced to stay inside his very haunted room.
Oh hey look, she was right, first death of the book! Feather noticed that the crowds lessened, sighing in relief she bookmarked the book and put it under her arm, swinging her bright blue backpack over her shoulder as she entered the bus. After finding a seat next to a kid who wouldn't sit down and kept talking to their friends behind them, Feather zoned out. Her final grades came into thought as she winced. She barely passed most of her classes. C's and D's for every class but one, she somehow managed to get an A in P.E.
Soon enough, the bus got more and more empty and many people got their own seats or finally sat next to each other. A boy with brown hair, darker than Feathers but just barely, and similar hazel eyes sat down next to her.
"Hey Mark"
"Reading the book dad gave you?"
"Yeah, it actually isn't that bad"
"Didnt you get in trouble for using one of dad's more mature books for a book project?"
"Yup"
"How many teachers have read over your shoulder?"
"Around three so far""Huh, I thought it would have at least been 5"
"Yeah well I think their as done with the year as the students are"
"Makes sense, the past week has just been movies and games for most of my classes... also the occasional donut"
"Lucky!"
"Not my fault that my homeroom teacher is actually pretty cool"
"Your still lucky"
"If I promise to get you donuts will you stop being a mope fish?"
"I-... Mope fish?"
"Remember that time you were moping around the pool?"
"Yeah???""Me and dad nicknamed you Mope Fish after that moment"
"I disapprove of this nickname"
"We still call you it though"The two siblings talked until the bus reached their stop, the two making sure to wish the bus driver a good summer, they set off in the direction of home. Entering the surprisingly cold house they both dropped their bags off in their rooms and made their way to the kitchen for a summer vacation snack of ice cream and gummy worms. Their parents decided that letting their kids have some kind of special treat after surviving school was a wonderful idea... problem was: They were both alone after school for around an hour. And so, they had the most surgery treat they could make. Last year was a cotton candy milkshake with nerds, rock candy, and sugar cubes... After their parents walked in on them eating the overly surgery treat the amount of treats in the house lessened around the end of the school year. But ice cream and the leftover christmas candy was enough to make the two happy... even if it wasn't a milkshake with rock candy in it.
