Walking along the boardwalk I felt the ocean breeze hit me, the smell of the sea hit my nose and I sighed in happiness.
It was somewhere around sunset, and I felt as if my night would be completed if I could actually see what people describe as the most beautiful thing anyone can see in a day. The sunset itself.
You see, I'm blind. Not even the doctors could describe what went wrong with me....I was just born that way. I had siblings, all of them were born perfect and my parents loved them more then me. For awhile they tried to hide this fact, but it was pretty obvious.
They ignored me most of the time assuming I didn't know they were in the room.
I wasn't sure what it was, but my feet were kind of like a spiders in a way if that can describe anything. I was able to sense any type of vibration that came anywhere near me, and I could paint a picture of the object nearby.
Obviously I couldn't see what they looked like, but I could determine their shape and how big they were.
I always knew when someone was in the room with me. But I never said anything to my parents or they'd probably consider me more of a freak. They never said anything about the fact I didn't need a cane to get around, so I assumed they probably didn't care enough to notice.
I could also feel the heartbeats of others as well, I've always been able to tell if someone is lying.
Sadly this only works with my feet and sometimes my hands. So If my feet aren't touching the ground I can't sense anything. Especially If i'm in water or in the air.
I can't even swim at all, and despite loving the smell and feeling of being by the ocean, I had no desire to want to go inside it. My parents were mad about this of course, as they wanted all their kids to be good at every kind of sport, including swimming and skydiving...
Then, they started abusing me. Other parents in the community judged our family for being rich and perfect, but having a blind daughter that isn't perfect. And instead of defending me my parents would hurt me and pull cruel jokes, along with my siblings.
Eventually they started locking me in the shed almost every night, making my old bedroom a guest room and making sure I stayed hidden whenever there were guests over.
This caused me to become very depressed and angry. I had the idea everyone just thought of me as an annoying embarrassment. I snapped at everyone easily, causing me to be abused more until I finally couldn't take it anymore.
I kicked down the door of the shed and ran away for good, with no plans of ever coming back. A few towns away from my original one was a town I took interest in and heard about a few times, Beach City.
I heard that apparently there's a gem race that lives there in a separate part of town and the town's savior, Steven Universe was half gem half human and lived there as well.
I was always interested in the abnormal and strange things, so I found my way there...It took a really long time due to not being able to see maps or anything, but thanks to brail and the help of other people I had finally found my way.
I met Steven Universe immediately and he understood my eyesight problem, he got me a house for free in Little Homeworld and ever since then that's where I've been living. Little Homeworld wasn't exactly complete, about 80-90% now but when I first moved in about 2-3 months ago it was about 50%.
I couldn't wait until it was complete as the vibrations of the machines and stuff prevented me from being able to sense other things, like people walking by me.
Anyway back to current times. I began walking back home, as I felt the temperature shift to become colder, meaning night was near. And despite my seismic sense it was still very dangerous for me to be out at night.
Plus I felt exhausted from helping out with construction all day. The gems figured because my other abilities were very enhanced I could help them out, which I was happy to do.
I planned to go to bed early.
Plus tomorrow Steven planned to announce a broadcast giving peace to the whole universe, I wanted to be present to hear that.
My home was at the very front of Little Homeworld near the boardwalk so it would be a lot easier for me to get around. I was pretty grateful my home was so near and made my way inside. To anyone with eyes that can see, you'd probably be confused by my home.
Obviously all the lights are off because I don't need them, and random objects are positioned in random places so I can always remember where I am.
At the end of the day my feet get very tired and don't work to pick up vibrations as well, so I'll depend on other senses I have. Or just my plain old hands.
I made sure to take care of my feet, as they were very sensitive but still a lot more tough then the average humans. I've always gone around barefoot as if I wore shoes I wouldn't be able to sense anything in the ground. And this also had angered my parents when I still lived with them. They considered it gross and unladylike to go around barefoot.
I never cared however. I was 18 now 19 When I ran away and I was tired of their constant bickering despite the fact I was pretty much an adult and could make my own decisions.
I sunk into my bed and laid underneath the covers with a satisfied sigh. One good thing about having more enhanced senses is that I could feel stuff more....so the feeling of a cool blanket slipping over me was more then just a nice feeling.
It felt like I was teleported into a world of cool and soft feeling.
I closed my eyes and let the feeling of sleep take over, excited for what was awaiting tomorrow.
It was sad to say Steven was honestly my only friend. The other were nice but didn't really have any interest to spend time with me or get to know me. Honestly even Steven really didn't, we'd have occasional meet ups and stuff but I was always the one to make the effort.
It brought down my mood sometimes, but I was aware that's just how the world works.
One day I'll meet someone who truly understands.
