"Hey." Grant paused just outside Skye's bunk and knocked lightly. "How are you holding up?"

She'd been downcast ever since the death of an innocent citizen who had provided them with intel. Of course, Skye didn't say exactly what she was feeling, but Grant could read her like a book.

Skye slid open the door. Her eyes and nose were red. "I'm fine."

He tilted his head to the side. "No, you aren't."

She let out a sigh, then walked back to her bed and patted the spot beside her. He went in and sat down.

"It's just...do you ever think we'll have a mission where we save everybody? Nobody gets hurt?"

Grant looked down. "Honestly, I don't know. But we're going to try our best, and keep trying."

"S.H.I.E.L.D. refers to deaths as 'casualties', unfortunate accidents. But everyone who...dies..." she choked a little on the word, "has a family and friends who are affected by it. Hypothetically, if I were to die on a mission, the team here would be pretty sad, wouldn't they?"

Grant didn't like the idea, even in hypothesis. "I don't know. We may finally get some peace and quiet around here."

"Oh, shut up." Skye punched his arm playfully.

He smiled. He glanced down at her hand on the bed, then took it in his. "We're going to try our best, okay, rookie?"

To his surprise, she intertwined their fingers. "Okay."
