Chapter I ~ Job Search

I needed a job and bad. I'm a struggling actress, much like my peers in this industry. Getting told "no", and that you aren't good enough can be tiresome but there's nothing else i'd rather do.

However being told "no" doesn't pay the bills...and i'm on the verge of losing my shit box of an apartment, I absolutely refuse to move back to my parents house so here I am. I'm currently scrolling through pages and pages of adverts for jobs, none of which i'm interested in if i'm honest.

My eyes rapidly scan through each boring advert until they stop at one in bold, that immediately catches my attention.

"Looking for a maid" it read. Now why would that capture my attention? Well first of all the pay was above minimum wage and no experience was required. I clicked on the link and opened a new tab with a description. It was a woman that needed her house cleaned, she would pay twenty-five dollars an hour.

"Okay, so far so good"
I spoke to myself, resting my finger on my bottom lip while I read the rest. She is looking for a woman...okay...odd? But I fit that category, she wants someone with a personality, funny, organized. The more I read this it looks like a tinder profile, am I going on a date with you or cleaning your house?

Anyways, I think I also fit that description pretty well. She's also looking for someone with a willingness to learn. Okay no problem.

Now i've reached the end where the big blue "apply"button is screaming at me but...this has to be a scam right? I mean why is she offering above minimum wage for someone with no experience?

I mean...what do I have to loose?
I chewed at my bottom lip thinking about it for a moment.

"Screw it."
I pressed the apply button, putting in what little of a resume I have. I put that I have acting experience not that it's relevant or anything but still.

I also typed up a few reasons why she should hire me and then I sent it in. The woman didn't state her name in this application which is also fishy but like I said I really have nothing to loose.

I spent the rest of my night going a few other potential jobs while coming to the realization that I can't be picky. A job is a job. It's just temporary anyway.

I rubbed my tired, computer strained eyes and peered down at my watch. It was 11:30. I better get to bed.

I dragged my body from the chair all the way to my bed. I always sleep the worst on this bed, the mattress is practically falling apart. My bed creaks and sounds like it's on the verge of breaking. Tonight I'm just trying not to over think, that's the main reason I have trouble sleeping. After a half hour I manage to drift off to sleep.

My body jolts and my eyes flutter open as my deafening ringtone blares in my ears. My vision slightly blurry trying to read the number on my screen. I look at the top of my phone to see it's six in the morning.

"Who the hell is calling me at six in the morning?"
I rub my eyes again to correct my vision and decide to answer it, the number didn't have caller ID and it wasn't anyone in my contacts.

"Hello?"
I raise the pitch in my voice a little so I don't sound so tired but whoever is on the other end of this line knew.

"Good morning, I'm sorry did I catch you at a bad time?"
It was a woman.
A deep voice i'm not familiar with.

"No, not at all...um, i'm sorry who am I speaking with?"
I prop myself up on my side, letting my elbow dig into my rugged mattress.

"Oh, im so sorry. You sent in an application to be maid for me."
Oh shit...I wasn't expecting to hear from her so soon. She still hasn't revealed her name which should draw a red flag but I just choose to ignore it.

"Oh, yes I did! I wasn't expecting to hear from you so soon."
I expressed.

"Well, I liked your resume, would you mind coming in for an interview? It shouldn't take longer than fifteen minutes."
I smiled and accepted the interview. We set up the interview for today at 11am so I have some time to get ready and prepared. She told me where she lived and I thought she was joking at first. She lived in the Hollywood Hills, so whoever this woman is she is definitely rich. A CEO of a big company perhaps?

She told me that I will be screened at the gate for security purposes and that I need to come with a police background check that she would offer to reimburse me for if I got the job. She must be a serious woman and has gotten threats or something?

"Okay, sounds great. Thank you for giving me this opportunity, I look forward to meeting you."
I expressed my gratitude and with that we mutually hung up the phone.

I jumped out of bed and got ready, taking my time. I had a lot of time it was only 6:10.

I did minimal make-up, only putting on mascara to make my eyes pop and the covering my dark circles as well as my blemishes. I smeared lip glosses across my lips, finishing with a "pop" noise.

"Not bad."
I smiled in the mirror. I got dressed, I decided on a nice collard dress shirt but un-buttoning it to show some tasteful cleavage and then a pencil skirt with some nice black heels. I know it's a maids job but this is how I usually dress, and I figured i'd just be myself.

I mean I can't go not dressed up, this woman sounds pretty serious.

Whoever she is.
