"now, let me hand you back the tests you did last week." the teacher declared, standing up from her chair as he grabbed the pile of paper that had been resting on the side of her desk since the beginning of the class. "overall, the grades are better than usual, but it's still not it. i expect all of you to make more efforts in order to have even better marks."
donghyuck's eyes rolled to the back of his head as he nibbled at the skin of his finger with his teeth. his eyes were focused on the teacher, examining her any moves. he would even start biting his finger with more force every time she approached his desk.
he wasn't stressed about not passing. of course not.
donghyuck was one of the top students, he had even skipped a grade.
he was just patiently waiting for his test to get placed on his table, so that he could know if he had done better that his main rival.
"donghyuck." the teacher spoke the boy's name, causing him to bit his finger harshly and emit a groan of pain.
"yes?" he asked, looking at the lady who was approaching his desk.
"once again, you aced. very good." she said with a smile, placing the paper over donghyuck's desk.
donghyuck was quick to look at it, searching quickly for the frame in which his grade was written. and he wasn't disappointed by what he saw.
"99%?!" he exclaimed out loud. "who's the boss now?! if he even gets to beat that..."
"please, i want your attention for this one." the teacher called.
donghyuck's head shot up, his eyebrows furrowing as he waited for her to continue speaking.
"please, give a round of applause to mark, who scored 100% on that test!" she exclaimed, handing the student on the front row his copy.
donghyuck's jaw clenched as the whole classroom started clapping loudly, wondering how mark had managed to get such a high grade on that test.
mark lee, who was seated on the first row, was smiling shyly, mumbling 'thank you's to all of his classmates.
and at the very last row, donghyuck had his knuckles white from gripping this hard on the sides of his desk.
once again, mark lee had managed to beat him.
and once again, he was second, behind the perfect boy.
it seemed like it was always like that, and in everything.
mark lee was the best student everyone had had, and donghyuck was always right behind him.
but this wasn't enough. donghyuck wanted to be first in his competition with mark lee.
mark lee... even his name sounded perfect.
he always had the best grades at school.
he was super friendly, and would always be greeted by everyone in the hallways.
he was good at any sport, and he was even captain of the basketball team, making them win the regional championship 3 years in a row.
and donghyuck had even heard that he had a girlfriend, with whom he formed the most perfect couple – honestly, he didn't really care about that shit, he wouldn't mind mark being better than him at relationships, but for the rest, oh he wanted to crush him.
