You'd think after their casita was completely destroyed the Madrigals would give up all of the loud music for at least one day. But no, here I was at 8 am being woken up by the goddamn piano.
I creaked my eyes open slowly, glancing towards the clock and then at the light shining in my room through the window. I flipped onto my back, trying to block my eyes from the bright beams. I wish Pepa would make it cloudy some days.
"Y/N~" a sing songy voice called up the stairs.
I groaned, "Yes Carmelita?" I called down to my friend.
"I made huevos con chorizo! Hurry before it gets cold" she yelled.
I slowly sniffed the air, smelling the fresh chorizo in the air. I couldn't help but smile at her always kind gestures. Carmelita had been a childhood friend of mine since we were in diapers. Her family and mine were very close, until our mothers got into a fight with eachother. Despite their differences, Carmelita and I still made it a point to hang out with eachother. Which is how we ended up here, in Encanto living together. I mustered up the strength to get up, slowly stepping onto the cold hardwood floor, that always creaks when my feet make contact with it. I glanced at myself in the mirror, shrugging off my appearance and slowly toddling down the stairs. I peaked my head into the kitchen to see her putting the food onto two plates, with two glasses of orange juice already sitting on the table.
I skipped over to her, grabbing my plate and a fork, "Thank you Carmelita~" I smiled, taking my place at the table near the window.
She nodded at me, doing the same "Of course mija, anything for you" Carmelita grinned at me. I chuckled at her comment, already taking a fork to the food infront of me.
Carmelita and I have been living in Encanto together for around a year now, helping my uncle Miguel sell his fruits occasionally at the market and making deliveries for him aswell. In exchange for our help, he lets us live at one of the houses him and his hermanos built. Although Carmelita and I had grown up in Neiva, both of us had a few family members in Encanto. Especially since it was a pretty small town, it only seemed right that we moved out here so we could meet new people and begin live our lives a bit freely.
Before I had realized it, I had already scarfed down all of my food, causing me to mindlessly scrape my plate as I thought I had one more bite. The plate of course made an ear screeching sound, making Carmelita lean over the table to smack my hand.
I laughed, "Sorry, I was thinking" I smiled sheepishly to her, taking her also empty plate and bringing them to the sink.
"You? Thinking? That's pretty rare" She smirked as she sipped on her orange juice.
"Ay, cállate!" I sarcastically yelled at her, causing her to throw one of the fake fruits we kept on the table at me. I picked it up after i finished rinsing off our plates, "Really? We're throwing naranjas now?" I smirked as I tossed it back into the bowl along with the rest of the fake fruit.
Carmelita smiled at me, "Yes we are!" she said as she got up and rinsed out her cup, setting it down and walking to her room.
I frowned, watching her leave, "Where are you going?" I whined to her. I was still drinking my orange juice!
"I'm going to see Victor in a little bit! We're going to walk around the market and maybe get lunch after!" she called from her room, as I heard her scrambling around in her closet, probably trying to find shoes and a purse to match her outfit. I sighed, finishing my drink and rinsing the cup out, before walking to the living room and sitting on the couch.
Carmelita emerged from her room, with her hair now braided as well, "Y/N, don't just sit around the pout all day" she waved her finger at me. "You should try to go out as well! Maybe you can find something to do...or someone" She smirked.
I threw a pillow at her, narrowing my eyes at her, "Carmelita you KNOW I've already scoured Encanto looking for a cute guy...None of them are really my type!" I frowned. When we first moved to Encanto, Victor was on Carmelita like a hawk. And I understood why, I mean she's gorgeous and her smile is so contagious. Unfortunately no one was as enamored with me, and I wasn't really into any of the guys I had seen around town either. I talked to a few but nothing had ever progressed into me wanting to be more than friends with them.
She sighed, placing the pillow back on the couch and patting me on the head, "Maybe today will be different? Promise me you'll at least get out of the house today" she said, extending a pinky out to me.
I exhaled deeply, "Fine" I grunted to her, squeezing her pinky with mine.
Carmelita smiled, putting her back over her shoulder, "Thank you Y/N! Also, you cook dinner since I made breakfast~" she added in, slipping on the shoes she held in her hand.
I smiled softly, "Okay Carmel, I love you!" I shouted to her as she opened the door.
"I love you too! Don't forget our promise!" She hollered to me as she stepped outside and closed the door. I sighed, glancing out the window to see her and Victor link arms and exchange kisses on the cheek as they made their way to the market.
I stretched my arms, getting up from my spot on the couch and making my way upstairs towards the bathroom. I freshened up and then headed towards my room into my closet, getting a fresh change of clothes.
I changed and had tidied up my appearance a bit more, looking at myself in the mirror with a satisfied look. I slowly stepped down the stairs, glancing around at my surroundings one more time before I headed out. I slipped on the shoes I had sitting by the door, and walked out into the rather sunny day.
I squinted my eyes slightly, and smiled at the outside world.
Maybe today will be different.
