I let out an annoyed sigh on hearing my phone ringing early in the morning. Stretching my hand, I somehow managed to get a hold of my vibrating phone. Without giving a glance at the caller's name, I abruptly picked it up.
I was immediately welcomed by Jin yelling, "I thought you were going to have breakfast with me before heading to the court."
Court? Why would I go to court?
"Yah! Are you there?" He yelled again.
"Yeah. Yeah. Stop yelling and tell me why would I go to the court?" I asked in my morning voice.
"Did you just wake up?" He questioned and I hummed as a reply.
Sighing, he continued, voice softer than before, "Did you forget about the...divorce?"
"Oh, shit!" I squealed, trying to ignore the way my stomach twisted upon hearing the word.
"Listen, as your best friend and lawyer, I suggest that you get ready quickly or else you won't be able to talk about the compensation money."
This time it was my turn to sigh.
"Jin, how many times have I told you that I don't need compensation money. He didn't do anything wrong, then why should he compensate."
"Oh come on girl, you married a billionaire but never took even one penny from him. Instead, you worked your ass off like a donkey."
"Look, you can say whatever you want but I am never going to take his money. You know I have my pride." I retorted.
"Your pride is what broke the relationship." He mumbled softly but it was loud enough for me to hear.
Jin had always been very straightforward. It was a plus when we needed to put someone in their right place but whenever he said something to me, it would hurt.
"I will hang up now. I have to get ready." Saying our goodbyes we hung up.
I had just gotten up from my bed when my phone tinged. I looked down to see a notification saying, 'Happy 5th anniversary to us!'
Sighing, I kept the phone back on the nightstand. This was going to be a long day.
Time was passing intolerably slow. It was hitting especially hard because I was sitting beside him. The man I had been avoiding since the moment I had announced that I wanted to end our marriage. Even though I could not say anything, I was genuinely curious about how he had been. I sometimes glanced at him and saw that his face looked more mature, his body looked toned, and he looked like he was in deep thought. I could tell that he had a rough day from those hooded eyes. I wished to say something but before I could do so, he asked, "How have you been?"
"Good," I answered shortly, not having a proper conversation even when I wanted to.
He hummed and again the room was filled with an awkward and uncomfortable silence. The silence was again broken by Jin.
"You both just need to sign these papers now and you will be done," Jin announced to both of us but only looked at me completely ignoring his presence.
I sighed at his childish behaviour before signing the papers and quickly getting up.
"I am done. I will leave first because I have some work." Saying that I paced out of the court while hearing Jin saying, "She might have a date." Trying to provoke him but I knew that it won't affect him, not anymore.
After an exhausting walk of twenty-five minutes, I finally reached the bus stop, only to know that the bus I wanted to catch had left five minutes ago and the next bus going to the same route was going to come after an hour. Things got worse when I heard the sky rumbling. I just wanted to quickly reach home before it started raining but it was not physically possible for me.
