It all started on the 3rd of September 2018. My mother had just told me about my powers (at the ripe old age of twelve) and I was freaking out. She also told me that when I was sixteen, I had to go on some sort of quest to pledge my witchiness or something.

***

It is now 2022. I was sixteen and getting ready to go on my witchy trip. Turns out that its like a test of endurance. I dont really know to be honest. Mrs Carpenter did explain to us what it was but I wasnt really paying attention. My thoughts went a little something like:

Oh yeah mum said something about this quest.. mhm.. mhm

. I wonder whats for lunch?.......... I hope they have some decent bread for once mmmmmmm bread.. oh!..... its the end of the lesson.. what was she was talking about again?

As you can see, I was quite a distracted student. But hey! I still got through the quest just fine! You probably thought thats how I died but it wasnt. Its a lot more complicated than that.

The quest was more of a one hour trek through a forest with people jumping out at you with targets, that you must hit with your power.

My death was a horrible accident.

I was out with some friends doing some community work, when we passed a dark and dingy looking building.

Me being the unwise 16 year old I was, decided that it would be a good idea to go inside (spoiler alert! I wasnt) as we walked around the building I saw hundreds of people laying there in an eternal sleep. They were unmoving and their eyes were blank and had no emotion. There was some sort of pattern of all of their faces that looked like someone had injected black paint into their veins.

I was terrified.

CRACK.

My head twisted to the direction of where the sound came from.

CRUNCH.

I slowly got up and mouthed to my friends to go.

THUMP.

They refused to leave as they thought I was being a coward.

BANG.

I pleaded and pleaded with them but yet they still stayed put.

ROAR.

STOP BEING IGNORANT AND RUN! SOMETHINGS COMING! I yelled. They ran and so did I.

I ran and ran as fast as my legs could carry me. The next thing I knew my face was on the cold, damp ground.

Get up.

I told myself

GET UP.

I pushed myself up onto my feet and continued to run. Where? I had no idea. Just anywhere away from where I was.

Running.

Running.

Running.

The being was catching up with me.

What is that? I thought.

It had a 7 foot tall frame, at least, and it had black scaley skin the colour of obsidian. It had horns that curled and twisted in all different directions and claws.

The claws.

They were razor sharp on the edge of a hand as big as my head.

Swoop.

It tried to hit me.

Thump.

It missed and hit a tree.

Just keep running. I told myself. For some reason I had a sinking feeling inside me that it was right behind me.

The steps got louder and louder. I was correct. I was so focused on running away that I wasnt looking where I was going and I tripped, once again. I turned my head to see the creature about 3 feet behind me. I got up as quickly as I could but it wasnt enough.

I felt something grab me from behind. I turned around and looked into its blood-red eyes being able to see the souls of all the people this thing had killed. My final thought was:

I wish I had been more wise

That was the last thing I saw.

Now I dont see anything.

All I see is

Black.
