Chapter One

Nayvee

"Are you sure about this?" my best friend Mae asked while she pulled the paper away from me. I looked at her and sighed

"We went over this already." I said, trying to tug the papers from her hands. I'm one sign away from selling my life and soul, this is yet my biggest purchase since I graduated. It's either gonna put me on top or just ruin my life more than it is already.

"Nayv out of everything you did in our entire existence this by far is the worst idea, but if this will make you happy I'm all up for it." she said as she grabbed the pen from my hand and signed for her part.

Exactly a month ago when I saw the ad online I decided to purchase this condo unit beside my ex, this may sound like the craziest thing to do when we ended in a very sour tone and not that I don't see him often at our workplace. I wasn't sure if I wanted to live in it or make it an AirBnb until Mae brought up the idea to just live in it with her. The decision was made on a whim and I never really thought of why exactly I'm doing this to myself. Maybe because I have so many unanswered questions that I wanted answers from, like why? Why did he choose to ruin both our lives when there's a lot of choices to choose from.

"Alright everything seems great, here's the key you girls can change it if you want that's what everyone does anyways." the realtor said as he gathered his stuff to leave.

"Thanks" I smiled as I walked him to the door. As soon as he left I looked at Mae and we both screamed

"We are now homeowners! Is this really real?" she squealed.

I just smiled and scanned the whole room, this is really happening now. We spent most of our savings just to purchase this place, it's in the heart of the city, which is partly why it was expensive compared to getting a house in the suburbs which we probably would've been able to purchase a bigger house. Though if we end up putting this place for rent we can price it higher due to the location.

"By the way, what do you think about subletting the other room? We do not have to but I think it's a good idea to have extra income from it and we can split it in half." I said and grabbed my phone to see how much rooms can go up from around this area.

"That would be a good idea, it doesn't have to be fifty fifty, you spent more than I did. Seventy thirty would be fine to me." she said "Do you think this will finally stop your nightmares?" she continued now standing across the kitchen counter.

"I don't know." I shrugged

"Why don't you come by my office and we can talk about it." Mae works as a counsellor and sleep specialist. I didn't even know that existed until she told me she wanted to be just that in high school.

"You know how I feel about walking in a room and talking about how I feel, besides I always had issues sleeping since we were like what 8?" I explained."You should stop being stubborn about it." she annoyingly said I rolled my eyes and just shook my head

"We better get going." I said as I grabbed my bag and the keys the realtor left.

Two days passed and it's moving day. Mae had an emergency conference in Ohio to attend so I ended up alone on our moving day. I don't really mind, we only had a few boxes, not even enough to rent out a moving truck. Most of our furniture will be delivered by tomorrow morning, we wanted them to be new for the fresh start. I was about to finish packing the last bit of our stuff when I heard a knock on the door, I looked through the peephole and to my dismay it was Mae's annoying cousin Brent. I jumped a bit when he knocked once again, I took a step back and opened the door.
