"You've caused enough trouble, Juliet. From now on, please stay in the castle unless called out otherwise."

Juliet's jaw dropped in disbelief. Her freedom had been taken away. It was like she was a bird in a cage, only taken out when the owner desires.

Tears filled her eyes, but she would not let them spill out onto her cheeks. She raced to her room and slammed the door. She ran to her bedside and opened the window, hoping to calm herself and clear her head.

The sun was now setting, it was quite beautiful. One of the main reasons people came to Calnifier was to see it.

Juliet sighed. Her only way of happiness, exploration and free will, had been taken away from her. She thought of her mother, how she would have never let this happen.

Thoughts raced through Juliet's pounding head, and the tears finally spilled.

"If only Father, no, the king had stopped that plague, then Mother could have lived." Juliet thought. "It's his fault, he is as good as mother's killer. It's as if he had taken a dagger and plunged it through her heart."

Juliet unhinged her cloak and tossed it behind her, letting the gentle breeze lightly sway her hair back and forth. The sun was barely grazing the houses atop the grassy, rolling hills beyond the moat around Calnifier. She stared beyond the hills, at the forests and mountains, places yet to be explored. She sniffed, wiped her eyes, and walked over to her closer, where she pulled out a small bag. She went to her dresser, and opened a drawer full of medical herbs and cloth for wrapping around wounds. Juliet then grabbed a quiver of arrows back from her closet, and slung it over her shoulder, and next the bag. She spun around to her bedside and reached over to a grand bow, displayed above her bed.

The bow was light yet sturdy, metal with delicate, shallow carvings and patterns engraved into it. Juliet ran her fingers across the bowstring, and it made a comforting humming sound. She smiled. It was her mother's bow. Years ago, Juliet would watch her mother draw an arrow, elegantly pull back the bowstring, and release it. It would cut through the air, and land straight in the center of her target. She was truly skilled.

Juliet quickly snapped out of her daydreaming and attached her bow to her quiver. Her hand wrapped around the cold steel door knob on her bedroom door. She took a deep breath and quietly stepped into the hall.

Juliet snuck quietly through the corridors, outside to a rose garden, and exited Calnifier from the back. She ran into a nearby forest, and stopped to catch her breath. Juliet looked at the sky, it was a light periwinkle color, the royal guard had definitely gone by now. She walked over to an oak tree, and sat below it.

Wow, I really have no plan, Juliet thought to herself. In her moment of weakness, she had run away. It was a pretty dumb idea, now that she thinks back on it. Well, there's no turning back now. Dang I think I messed up.

As Juliet contemplates her not so wise choices, she hears rustling come from a nearby bush. She raises an eyebrow in concern, and quickly unhinges her bow and pulls out an arrow. As she steps back and prepares for her attack, a small white bunny hops out of the bush.

"Oh, gods!" Juliet yells out loud in relief, relaxing her pull on the bowstring. "I thought you were some kind of beast!" She chuckles, the bunny's ears suddenly perk up, and it quickly runs away.

"Aww come on, did I scare you? You're the one who made me think I was about to be attacked!" Juliet exclaims. "Wait a minute, what's that noi-"

Juliet was cut off by her own fear. A large grey wolf edged out of the bush where the bunny had run from. The beast snarled at her, Juliet frozen in place. She noticed a white crescent moon on the wolf's forehead, but it was in a position so that the ends of the moon curved up.

Juliet shakily pulled on her bow string, getting ready to shoot the beast. As she had just begun to pull on the bowstring, the beast pounced on her. With a hard blow to the head, Juliet was knocked out cold.
