(flashback)

Voice coming from the radio: All units deploy to the Grand Central Memorial Park. There are civilians there, your duty is to keep them safe. Our assailant might be in the crowd trying to camouflage himself. We need to catch that bastard. It's shoot on sight. I repeat IT'S SHOOT ON SIGHT.

Siren beeps: (people get out from the car) Our orders?

Akira: It's just another one of them. We need to get him fast or people's lives are gonna be in danger. Paul, you're to be positioned at the far east corner. Derek, you come with me. All others take your position, just as we discussed earlier.

Unit: Yes ma'am.

Derek: (walking with Akira) Not letting the heat of this profession get to you yet, eh?

Akira: (annoyed) It'll be better if you do as you're told.

Derek: (pulling Akira by the arm) Just because I fucked up a case I ain't gonna let a woman talk to me like that. Always remember, I would have been in your position right now.

(gunshot voice)

(Derek and Akira both look at each other. They both run towards the noise. While running Akira sees a familiar face in the crowd.)

Akira: Oh no, God please no. Pete?

(Akira runs towards Peter.)

Akira: Pete, what are you doing here? You're supposed to be in school!

Peter: I-... (a loud boom drowns out the cries of the running people. That lunatic has made a bomb go off.)

Akira: C'mon, run. We have to get you to safety. Don't let go of my hand okay?

(Akira and Peter start running. Due to the massive wave of the crowd, Peter is separated from Akira.)

Akira: (panting, takes a turn in an alleyway.) I have to find him. (She feels something pointy pressed against her shoulder.)

Derek: Alright bitch, it's over.

Akira: You...fucking snitch.

Derek: (hits her head with the butt of the gun)

Akira: (grunts) Derek, please...listen I need to-...

Derek: (kicks Akira in the guts)

Akira: (coughs up blood)

Derek: It's over for you and everyone here. (Derek bends down to meet his eyes with Akira.) All these years, I've been waiting to get to where you are but the bloody force decided a puny woman is better for the job? Heh, no sir. Why don't you stay where you deserve? Under that alcoholic good for nothing piece of shit husband of yours?

(All this while Akira has retrieved a pen from her pocket. She takes her chance and stabs Derek's foot with the pen. Derek screams in pain while Akira tackles him and gets possession of his gun.)

Akira: (spits blood from her mouth) He's still better than a traitor, you motherfucker.

(Derek starts limping towards the alleyway and Akira follows on his trail, soon they reach a dead end.)

Akira: You're not gonna run any farther. Say your prayers. (cocks the gun)

(Akira shoots.)

(from Akira's perspective)

It got so quiet in the alleyway as soon as I shot and the only thing I can remember is a small figure dashing in front of my line of fire. Everything stopped, the birds, the wind, the people, the noises.....but there was a lot of blood. Can blood be so beautiful? He clutched his head and cried. He looked at me, cried, and collapsed. I've never felt much criminal in my life ever before. What have I done? Was I the one who shot? I don't know how he was able to even hold his head but he was trying to cover the wound and stop the blood. The bullet has pierced his head. It was a fountain of red. He should be dead. Nobody must be able to survive this. He was gasping for air and calling out someone's name. Was it my name? I went close to him but he jolted away, afraid I might hurt him further. He was looking at me.....blaming me. Blame. Pain. Cries. Blood. I fell down.

The next thing I know I was sitting outside the operation theatre. Somebody told me about death. I looked at my hands. Why's there so much blood? I was covered in it. Is it mine? Almost in a trance, I smeared my face in that blood and headed out of the hospital. It was pouring, like the heavens were crying, cursing me. I walked and walked and walked. Until I saw a cross. I entered the building and sat down on that all too familiar chair.

Akira: Father, I have sinned.

Father: There's no sin for God, my dear. He loves all his children equally. Speak, my child.

Akira: I shot my son.
