Chapter 4: Drop-Zone B

ISLA SANTA PRISCA

July 22, 21:48 ECT

They were following a drug lord.

Must be a Tuesday.

The man stopped at a cliff, pointing to the building below, the factory. KF and Robin, still in contest of which would be the better leader, stepped forward, Robin with binoculars and KF with his goggles.

"Look at all that product, a buy is going down...." Kate's attention was taken off Robin when Bane walked away, her masked eyes watching him like a hawk. "But if Kobra isn't selling to the usual suspects then-"

"We need to identify that buyer." Aqualad said his light eyes burning holes down at the factory.

"Just what I was thinking." KF agreed, lifting his goggles from his face.

"Yeah! You're the thinker." Robin scoffed, looking to Kate in hopes of a positive reaction, frowning when he saw she was preoccupied.

"Sarcasm? Dude, a real leader would focus on getting answers." Kate shot the red-head a raised eyebrow, looking him up and down. Her thoughts clear over her masked face, because you know what it's like to be a leader

To be fair though, neither did she, but she wasn't vying for the role like the fifteen year old. The other's turning the direction she had when Bane lifted a large rock and revealed a tunnel.

"Answers, are this way." Bane entered the hidden tunnel, the team stopping just outside.

"So now El Luchador is our leader," KF sarcastically said, Kate rolling her eyes as she eyes the tunnel entrance. Knowing from a single glance that her powers would be useless inside, the space too unstable to handle a sonic scream and far to compact.

"Really KF? Sarcasm?" Fed up with the arguing and unable to help herself, Kate threw the speedster's words back at him. Earning herself a heated glare that she simply shrugged at. Robin pushing past Wally as he followed after Bane, leading them. Shooting Kate a small smile as he past her, entering the tunnel. The rest following suit with Kate brought up the rear with Aqualad.

"I'm guessing you would like to be leader as well?" the Atlantean asked quietly, Kate just shook her head, "Why not?"

"A lot of reasons," Kate shook her head, Aqualad taking in her words with a pensive look on his face.

"Care to share?"

Kate sighed in exasperation, "One; I'm not like the rest of you. Two; I barely know any of you. Three; it's literally my first day."

"How so?" Aqualad asked, not unkindly.

"How so, what?" Kate responded with a question, unsure of when he was asking.

"How are you unlike the rest of us? You're a hero, are you not?" Kate's footsteps almost faltered, a reaction that didn't go unnoticed by the older Atlantean.

"I mean- yeah. I guess." Kate shrugged uncomfortably, Aqualad simply watching in return, watching her squirm, "Jesus, quit staring, would you?", crack, "What I mean is... You all wanted this. I stumbled into it, Goldfinch wasn't even my idea. It was Di- Black Canary's."

"I think you'll come to see that we are all quite alike in the areas you think we are not." Aqualad nodded to himself, his eyes twinkling with something unknown to Kate and it pissed her off. Before she could snap at him though he continued, more reserved, "I did not know that about you, about Goldfinch..."
